PETA kills animals?

I think you are overlooking that PETA doesn't like automatic deaths. For instance, when somebody brings their dog in and says "I can't maintain it anymore, put it to sleep". They don't want this happening. They want an animal to have a chance for adoption and a good life if at all possible. PETA knows they can't maintain thousands and thousands of animals and realize that some will have to be killed, but before that happens they try their best to get them adopted. It's not a perfect world and it's only because of asshole pet owners that we have this problem anyway. Stop bitching at PETA and start going after the assholes who won't feed, shelter and just all around take care of their animals.

 

So when does PETA kill animals?

 

I don't know much about PETA when it comes to putting animals down, but I will say if people bought from shelters and adopted dogs instead of buying from breeders (puppy mills) then they wouldn't have to put so many down. It sucks, but it's better to put them down humanely than to leave them to starve, in agony, and confined for a lifetime.
I don't like PETA all that much, they do piss people off, that's why I'd rather support Compassion Over Killing, Mercy for Animals, Action for Animals, etc.

the Animal Liberation Front (ALF) terrorists? please, they have never harmed a human or non human animal in their history. I'm personally impressed with PETA giving money to them. If the ALF can be considered terrorists for rescuing animals than you might as well consider the soldiers that broke into concentration camps during the Holocaust, hell, why don't we call anyone who gave aid to a Jew in Nazi Germany because the Nazi's may have cured cancer by testing on them? What's the difference? Just because you have anthropocentric views and can't understand why speciesism is just as stupid as racism and sexism doesn't mean it's ok to put an animal you can't communicate w/ under horrible pain and torture just because you think you have a chance at curing AIDS and Cancer. and you might as well consider anyone who participated in the underground railroad in slave days terrorists too because they stole and freed property

I don't like PETA much. I'm all for animal rights, but they seem irresponsible ad hypocritical to me. Just listen to this comic they distribute to kids (I found it on that anti-PETA site, and it seems almost too ludicrous to be true. However, I'll post it anyway) -- while many of the facts presented in it are true, it's just a swirling pool of spin. Here are some quotes.

It doesn't bother to mention that it's foxes and minks, no puppies and kittens, who are subjected to this treatment. I guess kids just think puppies are cuter.]

Lots of wonderful foxes, raccoons, and other animals are kept by mean farmers who squish them into cages so small that they can hardly move. They never get to play or swim or have fun. All they can do is cry— just so your greedy mommy can have that fur coat to show off in when she walks the streets. [Now their mommy's greedy, animals don't cry, and foxes and raccoons probably have other shit on their minds besides playing and swimming. Yes, I'm sure swimming is a raccoon's favorite passtime]

In the forest, nasty men in boots catch animals with traps that have metal claws that snap shut on animals’ legs. Ouch! Some animals bite off their own paws to get away! Mommy foxes do this because they want to get back to their babies to feed them, but they usually die anyway and their babies slowly starve to death, scared and all alone. Trapped animals who don’t escape from the traps get stomped to death by the nasty men. Ask your mommy how many dead animals she killed to make her fur clothes. Then tell her that you know she paid men to hurt and kill the animals. Everyone knows. And the sooner she stops wearing fur, the sooner the animals will be safe. Until then, keep your doggie or kitty friends away from mommy—she’s an animal killer! [The sheer spin in this paragraph in unbelievable. I'll only comment on the most shocking section, where it suggests to keep your doggies and kitties away from moomy because she's an animal killer. I just bet mommy wants to stomp on your kitten's skull and pull it's skin off to make another fur coat. Idiotic.]

I would like to say again that I am in complete and total suppor tof animal rights. I am a vegetarian for this reason. Do not get my hatred of media spin confused with hatred of animal rights.

 

PETA is an evil organization. One of Ingrid's little helpers uses an artificial trachea (made form an animals trachea) and says its more important to keep her alive for the cause. Anyone who sides with PETA (People Exercersing Terrorist Acts) cannot call themselves an ethical person. They want total animal liberation? THey want dangerous animals let out of zoos to roam the streets? What kind of fairy tale are these people living in?

 

I've read those PETA comics. I hate how they appeal to emotions (mean, terrible, animal friends) but fails to say any facts. Appealing to emotions works until people realize that the reason behind them is false....

 

I have never seen one of those PETA comics anywhere except on anti-PETA web sites which makes me wonder if they are even put out by PETA.

Don’t get me wrong, I do not support PETA’s mission but, they have done a lot to expose serious instances of animal cruelty. I am completely behind them on their boycott of PETCO and other pet stores that neglect or outright abuse their pets.

As for PETA killing animals:

First, I would like to know where that site gets it statistics from? They offered nothing in the way of proof. At least PETA takes the time to investigate and provide proof often with video to back up their claims. Second, as any person who rescues animals can tell you it is regrettable, but some times necessary to put an animal to sleep. These shelters get animals that have been so badly abused, neglected or sick that despite best efforts to do so there is just no way to save them.

 

THey did investigations on PETA and found they bought giant freezers which they apparently stored animals that they put to sleep. THey got sick animals from labs i guess and put the hopeless ones to sleep. THey say its better than living in the conditions that they would.

 

My main questions is if PETA members are supposedly so much more "ethical" than everyone else, why do they seem to love animals so much more than humans?

the hummer dealership would fall under the ELF category - the Earth Liberation Front, while i do support a lot of what the ELF does, i don't publicly stick up for them as much as i do for the ALF. no matter what you want to say, you cannot claim any act against any form of life an ALF/ELF action, just not how it is. read the guidelines and you'll see that if animals were harmed in the action you can't define it as ALF/ELF - and how can you complain about the toxins released when the ELF burning hummers and shit like that when so much more is released into the air from the hummers themselves.
second, you can't call defacing property 'terrorism' - terrorism is just one of those new words everyone likes to fling around, property destruction is not terrorism unless you're lame like the FBI.

you know, i get that shit a lot, people are always like 'you know there's humans that need help, you should put effort into saving humans instead of animals' blah blah blah, that's bullshit, i was wearing my 'Greenpeace: Forest Crimes Unit' shirt and a homeless guy was like 'i don't want to save a squirrel or a tree, save a human' - i just so happened to be on my way over to Food Not Bombs to feed him some vegan food
can you tell me what you do for humans?
no offense, but humans can kind of suck when it comes to greed, waste, selfishness, etc. - hence the word 'Misanthropic' my 'username' - but i know enough beautiful people to get by all that shit and to still have some hope and faith in the human race.
but trust me, i do a shit load for humans just like i do stuff for animals, so don't even think about giving me shit, every vegan i know does an incredible amount of work for humans, and all the meat eaters i know save a few do absolutely shit if not do things against humans.
you better do something to help humans if you're going to give me that shit. cuz i take that offensively.

PETA is extreme to the point of being counter productive. I do not believe in the torture or unnecessary distruction of animals, but I also don't believe man was meant to be totally vegetarian.

 

Screaming you are "destroying" the earth as we speak. PETA is a silly organizaiton that supports vandalism. Supporting PETA is a disgrace to hippy, bud.

 

My gripe with this is that PETA puts animals ahead of humans. They oppose medical testing on animals. Think of the thounsands of people that would have died due to disease if it wern't for animal testing.

 

Yeah, and it doesnt even seem that PETA 'loves' animals. Its just like they have some crazy drive to free every animal and get them away from human contact. They oppose dogs as pets. THey want total separation from animals. Thats just not natural .

 

For over 40 years I have contributed at leat $200, some years up to $500 per year, to the care and management of wildlife........in the form of "Hunting Liscences"

...Any of the peta, greenpeace, alf or elf members here contributed anywhere near 10-20 grand to animals???

 

....I offered a homeless guy a job once, but since he turned it down, does that count..???
