That turkey looked to be about 50 pounds!

 

Picked up my free turkey over the weekend. A nice 17lb bird.

 

don't forget to adjust for altitude if you live in the mountains above 2000 ft elevation.
this was actually a factor when i was growing up. something to do with lower pressure affecting cooking times.
i think they need to increase but i don't remember by how much.

 

High-Altitude Baking

The higher the altitude, the lower the air pressure. While this is an excellent environment for training athletes, it is a difficult one for baking recipes.

Baking depends on the specific interactions of several kinds of ingredients: flour, leavening, fats, liquid.
To complicate things further, individual microclimates vary greatly in the mountains, so the adjustment that works for you may not work for your neighbor down (or up) the road.

How do you convert a baking recipe for high altitude?

1. Increase oven temperature by 15°F to 25°F.
2. Decrease baking time by about 5 minutes (per every 30 minutes called for in a recipe).
