the differences between northern and southern california

Discussion in 'California' started by Boogabaah, Nov 3, 2008.

  1. There is no fixed differences except for the ones we have created. Though the weather is cool and nice in Norcal but, i love the summer heat of SoCal. :D

I didn't like the coastal fog. When I was in San Diego, it lasted until late morning.
Just a bit inland, winter nights are colder, but you don't have to wait so long for the sun to come out and cheer you up.

San Francisco is beautiful but I was always freezing cold there. During SF spring and summer, it is like Georgia winters.

The ocean along the entire west cold is cold all year long.

Los Angeles is nice and warm in the inland valleys, but its way too crowded for my taste, just like Atlanta. Atlanta and LA are a lot alike.

Summers in Fresno and Sacramento are way too hot. Even in San Diego, summers are too cold.

So maybe the ideal climate is inland, away from the coast but north of those cities.

Northern Cali = woods, cooler climate
Southern Cali = beach, warmer climate

P.S. Nobody in so-cal worries about what nor-cal people think of them

    Peace

Also here in southern cali we dont actually think about this stuff. Reading this thread is actually the first time i have heard of any of this lol. I never have "lived" in northern california but did visit with some parents of a (now ex) girlfriend whom lived in redding.
To think about it now, the ride up there to redding was just AMAZINGLY BEAUTIFUL! that is once you get north of the valley or the area when the wonderful trees, flowers and green starts! There IS a huge difference between the north & south but ALSO between the east and west! The east can be down right dangerous depending on the area i suppose..i do not know of all north cali but i noticed in redding they use horses much MUCH more than we do here in the south. The area i live (Bakersfield) i feel is the WORST. mainly what i would compare the south as too much smog especially bakersfield with its location near the mountains we call it the armpit of california because the smog from los angeles comes right over the grapvine and sits here, northern cali has fresh clean air in my opinion.. but BOTH areas have wonderful sites to visit!

I have never been to SoCal but know plenty of people from or live in SoCal. Personally everyone I know that lives in SoCal now has turned into a junkie... I am not saying that is what SoCal does to people but I am just saying if you aren't strong of mind, you will be poisoned..same goes with anywhere really. NorCal is beautiful but it does have its ugly sides. If you go down to the bay DO NOT swim in the waters, it is toxic. I have never been further north than Mendocino and I love the view and the people there. I have not met a single bad soul from that area and the view on the HWY 1 is BEAUTIFUL, you have the woods on one side and the sea on the other side. I stupidly drove my beater car down that hwy at night. It gets pretty windy so you need to drive carefully and have good brakes. San Francisco is just plain old disgusting in my book. I can see how it once used to be beautiful but it is now a place of hatred. This is by all means my point of view. Everyone's view is different and by all means don't let my views on these places change your mind on visiting. SF does have it's good moments, I do like to see some shows there every now and then, so the nightlife is pretty decent. I am sure SoCal has its beauty but I have not been so my judgement isn't valid. Anyways going up north past the bay is so beautiful. You can actually see the stars and the trees outnumber the houses. I love Mendocino Village, I wouldn't mind retiring there one day but it is so god damn expensive. You also need to know when to go to certain places as there can be a lot of bad people rolling through town. I once visited a place where it was so nice and full of life and people then visited again and it was full of junkies and alcoholics, so depending on the town don't let the first time give you the impression on what that town really is.

It's not free. But its a whole hell of a lot less expensive than those other ones. Its 75 bucks for a 3 days pass if you buy tickets early. and if u camp there its like 15 bucks a night. so not bad at all. And its in a sweet area

I have lived in South Cali most of my life. Can't really call it California anymore down here. Seems to have become part of Mexico.

I have visited Sonoma county and the Emerald triangle. People are so fuckin chill up there. Old hippys walking down the street smokin joints and stuff. And they have the Redwood forest too.

South Cali has some fine ass babes at the beaches in summer, but you better know how to speak spanish if you go to L.A. The desert is boring. Hope this helps.

I do not like the coastal summer fog either. But it only happens in northern and central coasts. Southern coastline is always sunny and warm in the summer.
But getting back to the Northern coastline, being from Southern Cali, I can almost always find the Northern coast cold and damp and foggy in the middle of July. It's almost an insult to South Cali as if to say "L.A. stay away!"
I have explored the California coast all my life. I must say that despite the weather, the geography and culture of the Northern coast outweigh that of Southern California.
