Long term no, short term yes

Australia's case, quickest way out of the depression to come would be to push for manufacturing in regional areas and massive infrastructure projects also in regional areas

Create jobs and try push for regional cities to pop up to get away from high population density

Would be the smart thing to do. Solve two problems at once

Before all this, NSW was pushing to relocate a lot of government departments to Orange

nah the quickest way is through gift giving and deflation .. Like a big party. Stores will be happy to sell but people will have less money. Boom deflation on certain goods, liquid luxuries like tv sets .. there nothing like rewarding slaves with tv sets. happy now got a new phone, a fashion purse for half, even cars.. That's my guess. inheritance monies are also on the rise.

this is really disgusting. I saw a commercial the other day put out by left wing political groups here telling young people to talk to their parents and grandparents about their will, And to suggest they not take trips and/or sell off what they own and give it to them in their wills. Vultures! And I thought, yeah, with this corona virus I thought it was disgusting, and just young people wanting their parents and grandparents dead. Move aside older generation, make way for me. No respect!

Trump announces new initiative for hospitals to lend unused ventilators to areas of need

I can't figure out if I'm being biased or not, but does this sound like a bad policy to anyone else?

It reminds me a little of a thread we had about the electoral college. With all the votes concentrated in urban areas the concern is that less populous areas don't get a vote. Well this seems to beg the question "if populous urban areas need all the ventilators, will less populous rural areas be without if/when they need them?".

I worry about the ventilator issue though. And I have trouble with my Trump policies... Maybe I'm biased.

I believe that this is a deadly disease, and that there is a problem with having enough ventilators.

Another reason the lockdowns are a bad idea:

"Measles outbreaks may occur as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, officials say, because some vaccination programmes are having to be delayed.

Unicef says 117 million children in 37 countries may not get immunised on time.

There have been several large outbreaks in countries across Europe where MMR vaccine uptake has been low.

The UK has already lost its measles-free status, because of rising cases of the potentially deadly infection."

no worries soul. It is all really dodgy when science is published without peer review. That bio place, the more downloads the more it is spread to news media sources, posted on Twitter, Facebook... etc... goes viral... like a telephone game. But Newsweek should have checked on that company and what they actually do.

all news sources are about this virus, everyone looking for a story no one else has. Took me a few minutes to find out all that. They had to have known.

I have been thinking about ventilators. I have been intubated and put on one a few times. It's a horrible, damaging and invasive procedure to be used only in times of dire necessity. When someone's lungs are already totally shot and damaged by the virus, doing that, and forcing air in and out will only make things worse... and I hope someone looks up the rates of survival for those who are put on ventilators vs. the ones who aren't.

A nursing home about 4 miles from here issued a press release today. In it they confirm that several staff members and patients have tested positive for corona. They didn't say how many though.

Some doctors have looked into this... It could be a ventilator is the wrong tool for this particular virus, but normally the right tool for someone with similar symptoms. (which is why they started using them in the first place.)

Rate of recovery from corona once put on a ventilator seems to be very low....

    8 April 2020

"An outbreak of African swine fever (ASF) was confirmed on Monday on a farm near the village of Więckowice near Poznań in western Poland, less than 150km (93 miles) from the border with Germany.

African swine fever is a highly contagious virus which is fatal to pigs. It is transmitted directly between animals or through infected meat or animal feed and has also been seen as having the potential to transmit to humans. There is an ongoing outbreak in China that has already already wiped out 40% of pigs in the country."
