France has just reported its highest number of COVID cases since the lockdown ended and Spain has reported its worst day since the pandemic began. Italy has seen its numbers creep up to levels not seen since the lockdown there ended in May, and Germany has reported its highest number of new cases since April. But despite being slammed by what looks a lot like a second wave of COVID-19, the hospitalizations and death rates are nowhere near the level they were the first time around.

Authorities across Europe say that’s because the first time COVID came to town, vulnerable elderly people living in closed communities were the hardest hit. This time, it’s young people who caught it on beaches and clubs on vacations and who are mostly asymptomatic. And because of aggressive testing–countries like Italy test all passengers coming in from holiday hot spots—they have been able to isolate cases and stop the spread. With the hospitals no longer overwhelmed, and the gift of history as a guide about how best to triage COVID patients, the second wave is—so far—manageable.

One, by Britain’s Centre for Evidence-Based Medicine , looks at mortality rates in the U.K. where the strategy has been inconsistent from the beginning, but the case fatality rate there has fallen from 18 percent in April to around 1 percent in late August. Statistician Jason Oke said that the reason is not that treatment has been found, it’s that the virus isn’t the same. “This doesn’t seem to be the same disease or as lethal as it was earlier on when we saw huge numbers of people dying,” he said.

French epidemiologist Laurent Toubiana told BFM-TV that he was baffled by this new wave. “The virus is circulating, but an epidemic without patients, I don’t understand what it is,” he said, noting there was no major uptick in hospitalizations despite France’s numbers soaring. “For the moment, there is no major sign of crisis, for the moment there is no rebound.”

If that's the case, that’s good news as kids go back to school amid a COVID wave at least as bad as the one that shut down much of Europe last March.

In the coming weeks, Europeans will send children back to school, some, like in Italy, for the first time since March. And everyone will be watching to see if the European approach to back-to-school in times of COVID will be a guidepost or a warning about how not to do it.

In the early phase of the pandemic, deaths in Germany mirrored cases, but the recent trend is for cases to increase whilst deaths continue to decline.

As the global community continues to grapple with the fallout from the coronavirus pandemic – and the economic catastrophe caused by the associated “lockdowns” imposed by governments around the world – a chilling new theory has emerged.

It goes like this – China, in an enormous disinformation campaign spread via social media and through compromised voices in Western politics, science and medicine, aggressively pushed for other nations to follow its lead, with the goal of intentionally destroying their economies.

That’s according to Michael Senger, a lawyer and researcher based in Atlanta, Georgia. In an article for Tablet Magazine, Senger has laid out a disturbing timeline of evidence that, if true, hints at what could be the most effective and devastating psy-op ever carried out by a world government.

“By promoting fraudulent data, aggressively deploying disinformation, and flexing its institutional clout, Beijing transformed the snake oil of lockdowns into ‘science’, crippling rival economies, expanding its influence and sowing authoritarian values,” Senger writes on Twitter.

Sweden, which infamously rejected calls to shut down schools, bars and restaurants through the pandemic, has, according to some experts, largely been “vindicated”. Despite recording more than 5800 fatalities, one of the worst near the start of the crisis, the country’s daily rolling death toll is now negligible.

Other experts, however, including Professor Peter Collignon from the Australian National University, caution against the Swedish model.

When the CCP first moved to place Wuhan – the city of 11 million people in the eastern Hubei province where COVID-19 first emerged – under mass house arrest in late January, the World Health Organisation (WHO) described it as “unprecedented in public health history” and “new to science”.

A month later, WHO enthusiastically endorsed China’s lockdown strategy as a framework for governments around the world to follow. “Copy China’s response to COVID-19,” Canadian WHO official Bruce Aylward said on February 26.

In the meantime, social media had been flooded with terrifying “leaked” videos appearing to show apocalyptic scenes from the virus epicentre – bodies stacked in hospital hallways, people collapsing in the street.

The New York Times first revealed in June that Twitter had removed tens of thousands of fake accounts that were being used in a co-ordinated effort to spread the CCP’s message, with a particular focus on Italy – the European nation with the closest ties to China.

 

Covid: Clashes as police shut down protest over new rules

Police have clashed with demonstrators at a protest in central London against coronavirus restrictions.

Officers used batons to control the crowd, after bottles and water were thrown by demonstrators massed in Trafalgar Square.

At least three protesters and nine officers were injured, while 16 people were arrested.

The Met Police said the protest had been shut down because the crowd was not complying with social distancing.

Earlier on Saturday, thousands gathered in central London to protest against the latest government rules, with very few wearing masks.

Brain-eating microbe: US city told not to use water amid contamination concerns

Residents of Lake Jackson, Texas, have been urged not to use tap water because it might be contaminated with a deadly brain-eating microbe.

The local water authority warned of the potential contamination of its supply to the town - home to about 27,000 people - by Naegleria fowleri.

The amoeba typically infects people when contaminated water enters the body through the nose. It is usually fatal.

Infections are rare in the US, with 34 reported between 2009 and 2018.

Eight Texas communities were told on Friday night not to use their water supply for any reason except to flush toilets. But the warning was lifted on Saturday for everywhere but Lake Jackson.

From the beginning I said lockdown and other measures would be the difference between millions dead and tens of millions. If no action was ever taken, we'd be balls deep in the tens of millions dead by now. But the people who've been against lockdowns all along, "oh this is no big deal...".

I noticed you rarely mention abortion which is the leading cause of death worldwide.
Some 41-43 million abortions are performed each year. Less than 700,000 a year in the US.

What other issue other than abortion could cause your continued steadfast support of President Trump?
