Madrid coronavirus: Spain orders lockdown amid rise in cases

On Wednesday, a majority of Spain's regional governments, who are in charge of healthcare, voted in favour of imposing restrictions in areas with more than 100,000 residents if they met three benchmarks - 500 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, 35% Covid patient occupancy in intensive care units and positive results in 10% of tests.
Madrid, which has a rate of 780 infections per 100,000, already meets the criteria. However, it is not yet clear when the restrictions will be introduced.

It’s not a good thing, no one suggested as such, but VG has a tendency to skew the numbers.

Study Finds ‘Single Largest Driver’ of Coronavirus Misinformation: Trump

Of the flood of misinformation, conspiracy theories and falsehoods seeding the internet on the coronavirus, one common thread stands out: President Trump

That is the conclusion of researchers at Cornell University who analyzed 38 million articles about the pandemic in English-language media around the world. Mentions of Mr. Trump made up nearly 38 percent of the overall “misinformation conversation,” making the president the largest driver of the “infodemic” — falsehoods involving the pandemic.

The study, to be released Thursday, is the first comprehensive examination of coronavirus misinformation in traditional and online media.

  5. People don't do their work on these numbers and percentages, just hear the "fear" from the media. And the sky contains to fall.

    "HIV and COVID-19

    • A new analysis by UNAIDS has revealed the potential impacts that the COVID-19 pandemic could have in low- and middle-income countries around the world on supplies of the generic antiretroviral medicines used to treat HIV.
    • The lockdowns and border closures imposed to stop COVID-19 are impacting both the production of medicines and their distribution, potentially leading to increases in their cost and to supply issues.
      • It has been estimated that the final cost of exported antiretroviral medicines from India could be between 10% and 25% higher than normal prices.
    • Recent modelling has estimated that a six-month complete disruption in HIV treatment could lead to more than 500 000 [471 000–673 000] additional deaths from AIDS-related illnesses.
    • If services to prevent mother-to-child transmission of HIV were similarly halted for six months, the estimated increases in new child HIV infections would be 162% in Malawi, 139% in Uganda, 106% in Zimbabwe and 83% in Mozambique."
Global HIV & AIDS statistics — 2020 fact sheet

Straight from the horse's mouth UNAIDS

500k to 900k AIDS deaths was the 2020 estimate before covid

And as they say there estimates of 6 months of lockdowns will double that figure, double again if 12 months

Covid, world will probably reach 1.2, 1.3 million deaths by the end of the year, only 10% of them are actually Covid only, only 5% are under 60

So an extra 1/2 million deaths from HIV, and we have been searching for a vaccine for that for 40 years

Then there is malaria, tuberculosis, cholera, every other water born diseases

And the 10 million or so that die of hunger every year probably doubled

Those ancillary or secondary deaths are commonplace during a pandemic.

During the Black Death (1347-1351) which killed anywhere from 75,000,000 to 200,000,000 people, it’s estimated that 20% of the deaths were from secondary causes.

Well, for those like you that don't give a shit about the third world

There is another issue closer to home everyone needs to worry about now

We have gone 80 something years assuming flu vaccines alone help protect us becuase we have never seen a time before where the whole world was socially distancing

But its also about viral load, everybody mixing and exposing us to a small, quickly recoverable dose of influenza

Cases of influenza are currently outstripping Covid in the UK

Quite possible you are headed for a 4 X deadly flu season this winter whilst the Covid mortality rate is plummeting

So, if influenza ends up killing just as many first worlders as Covid this winter, oh, the irony

Well since the pandemic began your track record has been pretty sketchy, so I’ll wait until we emerge out from what is expected to be a very long and very cold winter.

You'd go into denial mode no matter what facts are presented to you

Africa, India, Indonesia, Sth America, those regions combined would have easily registered an extra (same number of covid) million deaths above normal due to lock down restrictions and poverty it causes over the last 9 months

Also, there doesn't seem to be anywhere in the US actually in lockdown at the moment, so this is all kind of a waste of time

I am probably a cynic here but I am just wondering how many flu cases will be counted as Covid so more restrictions can be brought in ?

The cat is out of the bag more restrictions are simply not feasible without a full blown civil war , so many jobs lost and business's closed due to extreme mishandling of the situation, unfortunately the truth may never be known Trump has cast shade on all the agencies involved, and the CDC mishandling sending out tainted tests right from the get go holy crap what a shit show

Trump says he and first lady have tested positive for coronavirus

President Trump and his wife Melania have contracted the coronavirus, White House officials said early Friday, after months in which he has played down a pandemic that has killed more than 205,000 Americans and sickened millions more.

Trump, 74, was diagnosed hours after it became publicly known that Hope Hicks, a top Trump aide who traveled with him on Air Force One and Marine One this week, tested positive on Thursday morning.

It’s been confirmed that trump is symptomatic and will be closely monitored for the next ten days.

At 74 years old and overweight he’s a prime candidate (no pun intended) for his condition to worsen.

No doubt Kim Jong-un, the Supreme Leader of North Korea has already offered Trump the services of his personal physician

He's in quarantine for 14 days !!! and since there's only 1 month to go for the election, those 14 days could be critical to his failure !!!
