The entire basis of capitalism is simple: The power of the dollar. That means supply and demand would move based of who has the dollar. The seller of widget X will lower or increase its price according to demand. The buyer of widget X will spend the dollar when the price is low and refuse to do so when high. So, most of the time, under capitalism the price of widget X is artificial. Communism says the price of widget X is equal to the value of the work and materials which went into it and the manipulation of the price is nothing more than the desire of the seller to obtain wealth. When the sellers become few, they control the artificial price by creating demand with holding back of widget stock. When there is only one seller, you've got monopoly. So, there you have the need for government. Government is supposed to protect you and me from price gouging. I wouldn't trust a capitalist as far as I could spit. They just want to rip us off!

Sounds like a great topic for a master's thesis. Do you have stats? And while at it, do you have similar stats which explain the failure of capitalism everywhere it has been implemented?

What about the philosophy itself though? It seems like democratic socialism has done good things for European nations. I don't know why we shouldn't try to employ it here as well.
