OKay, I must admit that there is a correlation between how poor someone is to how religious they are. However, in America where religion seems to count in matters of politics, it is the rich religious people who hold the sway. There is supposed to be a separation of church and state, so how do you explain that anomaly?
No. You had me until live and let live. But to call atheism a 'belief' like any other belief. No. I'm sorry but, evolution is not a belief. Thor is. Zeus is. That's where Jesus fits in, with Thor, and Zeus, and fairies. Not with atheism. Atheism is not a belief. It is the absence of one. I'm all for letting people believe what they want to believe, no matter how stupid. I don't even feel the need to tell them that their belief is stupid, but I draw the line at relativism. Scientology books do not belong on the library shelf with Einstein. Sorry, you cannot make your own truths. You have the right to your own beliefs, but you don't have the right to your own truths. Pigs don't fly, I don't care how much you believe that they do.
You're making the false Democratic party propagandistic association between Republicans and the rich. Republicans are not on average richer than Democrats. Not the politicians, not the voter base, not the contributers. Patently false Democratic machine politics propaganda.
Then you must believe in not voting at all. Otherwise, you would have realized how inconsistent with reality your comment was on how Republicans are no more richer than Democrats based on an average. However, this is a religious thread regarding the fact that God does not exist. If you want to discuss politics, please create the appropriate thread on the appropriate politics board. Thank you.
And you missed it before I did, evidently: BTW, the fact that there is separation of church and state, only furthers my point. In spite of a progressive law, people in The States are more religious than, say, in Japan where the divinity of the Emperor is politically upheld. Why? IMO, poverty rates.
You really should refer to the debate I had with bird_migration. "It" in the sense to which you are referring has an entirely different meaning to you than it does to me.
So while atheism is not a belief, rather a disbelief in a Deity, the end result of it is a belief in science or fact derived from science. In order to have a base of disbelief you have to have a belief system to derive that from. It is still based upon a belief. I am not discrediting science, in fact many theologists today feel that science and faith are very much in line and that teachings are parables rather than word for word interpretations of events.
And I say that's absolute horseshit, and evidence of the impotence of religious faith in an increasingly richer society, where people don't have to rain dance or pray in complete darkness that the devil won't possess their bodies or call a shaman to heal a simple cold anymore. They have electricity, they have irrigation, they have aspirin, etc. And belief systems that were concocted in pre-industrial economies no longer hold sway. Not for very long. The only reason theologians must acknowledge science, is because every single religion in the western world is losing followers in droves. If it weren't for immigration, the numbers would be even more staggering. Churches in Amsterdam are being converted into cafes, etc. Theologists aren't stupid, they have jobs, and they need to keep themselves in the swing of things if they want to keep their salaries. Hence, they cozy up to science. Science is experiment and evidence based, fairies are not. Period. Science and religion are at loggerheads, as any accredited scientist will tell you. If you notice, the alleged affair between science and religion only really runs one way.
That is freaky superstitious to assign human existential angst to a creature minding his own business. Hey rocky watch me pull a rabbit out of my hat, nothing up my sleeve, presto... Well I'm embarrassed, it was a pig after all, guess I don't know my own strength!
Heat, I saw your pig meme and it's haha funny. But this...this is lol funny to me. Atheist kind of humor, though.
And whatever happened to the decree in your meditation stanced ideal that the business of others is their own and no business of yours?
