I prefer to be surrounded by "saints" as well, but particularly those who are more-than-capable of defending themselves and others but exude so much confidence and chi that the need to resort to their physical skills is nil. Shaolin anyone? Clearly, the term "high holy" is reserved, as hippiehillbilly pointed out, as a derogatory for those who are almost condescending toward others in their, ahem, "holiness". The true saints never wear their spirituality as a uniform. You just KNOW by being in their presence that they're the real deal. .

malakala, I would say about the same thing.

I have a slightly loose definintion of saint, as i do of 'sin'. For instance i feel one could be in a-camp and still be saintly. I believe one can make a mistake one day, and still act saintly another day. Such forgiveness, i believe, allows folks who have made mistakes to aspire to 'higher' spirits even after their 'sins'.
    Perhaps i am naive.

I would disagree though that just because a lot of folks only use the term derogatorily, and just because the highest and holiest folks i know do not prefer to be refered to as such, and just because there are pretenders, that the term is 'clearly reserved' as in insult.
I believe that to use the term holy as an insult is a little insulting to holy. My own limited familiarity with holiness reserves the term for those things that align with my experience.

Also, i do not believe that only elders, or only rainbow gatherers, can act in a holy manner.

Rastapatch, it's all good. I can dig your approach & view. There's nothing you've said that I outright disagree with. The "drunken master", or saint, is a common theme in many spiritual & martial arts allegories. It's true therefore, that one never knows who the saints are, could be anyone at anytime, A-Campers & non-Rainbows included for sure. And as far as coining a term like "high holy", even the point you made about that is true...if the INTENT is not to be derogatory, then it is not. I guess I should have clarified by saying that any semantics issues ultimately revert to intent. I just meant that most who could qualify as actual "high holies" would most likely not think of themselves as such, due primarily to the saintly virtue of humility. Lovin' you, may peace be with us all.

I more than once have been in the company of someone who in their daily normal state seemed quite unconcious, but when completely obliterated on whisky suddenly reached a point of clarity and light I had never seen in them before. Unfortunately they couldnt remember it the next day...
