the only question i have about this is seriously though, what if soemthing does go wrong with the birth?
HDH - they aren't graphic Well that's why you have a lifeguard...aka a well trained midwife. The midwife that attended my last home birth was a paramedic for 11years, she even worked Life Flight. She has attended over 500 births with no fatalities. She brought all the necessary emergency stuff with her and had a mind trained well enough to know if we needed to transport to a hospital at some point in the labor/delivery or shortly thereafter. You gotta hire someone who knows their stuff and that you can trust. If you can't be at ease and trust your midwife then you more than likely shouldn't birth at home with that person, yk?
necessary equipment? hopefully that include a few pints of blood and an i.v. set. did she have this for your births?
A study was just released where they studied if having a baby with a midwife was more dangerous than at a hospital. Guess what... it was even. =) Wish I had a link to provide, but too lazy to look... only heard it on the radio last week. The other thing the study found was that women who choose a midwife are less likely to have any type of intervention required.. But they did stress that this may just be a reflection on the type of women that choose to have a midwife over a doctor. I personally would trust a person who has dedicated their studies to only labour and delivery over a doctor who has only had general medical training. Seems like a simple choice really. My sis insisted on having a hsopital birth because of her hsuband. Trust me... they realize now that the hospital only dicked them around. 52 hours of labour that ended in an "emergency C section". Which all of which could likely have been avoided had they had someone dedicated to them.
No, why would she need blood? LOL She carries Pit & Shepards's purse for post partum hemorrhage if that's why you think she may need blood. She carries oxygen, a ton of herbs (she's a Master Herbalist and makes all of her own tinctures and some very cool salves, balms, oils, etc) and a library of homeopathics. She also has antibiotics, syringes, and well - all the necessary equipment In Florida the midwives are licensed to attend home births, insurance companies cover the cost of it and so they are well equipped, stocked and trained. It's a bit different here in Alabama where the laws prevent midwives from attending home births w/o the risk of losing their license. Most either aren't licensed (for fear of losing that license if "caught" practicing) or they are licensed in another state. It's a bit bassackwards in Alabama fo sho! We didn't need anything for my daughter's home birth though, well, I did take some oral Arnica after I had the baby and this awesome After Birth tincture that my midwife made for afterbirth pains that ROCKED and that was it ETA: Here's the latest study that daisy was referring to http://www.nlm.nih.gov/medlineplus/news/fullstory_88775.html
Thanks mama. =) You are much better at saying things than I. Also, I alwys thought you were in the UK... hence my insomnia comments. lol I thought you were up at 4am.
Pit is not a plant It's short for Pitocin ETA: If the mw thinks mom is at risk after delivery of baby before the delivery of the placenta she'll get a shot of it then, if she thinks she is at risk after the delivery of the placenta it's administered then. Women who homebirth are at a much less risk of hemorrhage though because there usually aren't any interventions. Interventions are what lead to problems ETAA: This kind of explains why not having interventions at a home birth makes birth safer.
No I'm gonna leave it a couple more weeks. Apparently it won't be very accurate. ***Irresponsible I know but I still don't even know whether it was an early period and I don't wanna pass up on our last chance of smoking just to find out it was an irregular period.***
Even if you only a get a faint line, it's still an indication. You can't run from it sugar. Better to know!! But I totally understand.
If I had the spare cash I would. But I can't spend £10 on something that won't be accurate. Least if I leave it a couple more weeks I can do it the good ol' fashioned way and wait for a true period then get a stick.
Good call! Here we have stores called Dollar General, Dollar Tree and The Dollar Store. They sell pg tests for $1!! It crazy cheap! And they are just as accurate. I forget you are on the other side of the world sometimes
