For some reason a federal election has been postponed. It's my understanding that the Liberals teamed up with Harper on this bill. So I guess we're screwed either way. Canada has only elected a liberal or conservative government for the past one hundred and some odd years. You can be certain we won't elect the NDP's or Green party next election.

Fuck Harper. We need Chretien up in here. We were really close, but it seems we're going in the opposite direction now. Going to jail for marijuana is so stupid. Keep jails for VIOLENT offenders, that's what it's there for. To separate the dangerous people from the rest of society, not the stoners. It's a matter of choice and free will. The government has no business telling me what I can or cannot do with my body.

As for protesting, I haven't heard of anything in the Ottawa area. If there's something going on tomorrow at Parliament I'll head down there for sure.

Just got back from Parliament Hill. The protest started at noon and was still going on when I left. Good turnout and peaceful.

Signed the petition, emailed the PMO and my MP.

    Idiots!

Ignatieff Says Liberals Will Reintroduce Marijuana Decriminalization Bill

Canadian Liberal leader Michael Ignatieff says his party will reintroduce legislation to "decriminalize" small amounts of marijuana for recreational use.

On September 27 in Montreal, the first night of his cross-country Open Mike tour, the Opposition Leader told an audience of over 200 people that the Libs would bring back Martin Cauchon's decrim bill that would eliminate criminal penalties for possession of under 15 grams of cannabis and replace them with fines.

Liberal Critic for Justice, Montreal MP Marlene Jennings, who joined Ignatieff at the event, added that she will push for Health Canada to streamline the process of granting medical marijuana permits.

Introduced in 2003, the original Cauchon bill would have lessened or removed penalties for possession of small amounts or cultivation of under 25 plants, but increased penalties for growing more than 25 plants.

I know eh. But it's a serious problem. Harper is trying to Americanize us! We've got to do something aboot it. This fascist bill is a good place to start. We don't want to be the 51st state.

    That's good to hear!

At first I wasn't so concerned about the bill, but then I heard that the Liberals were on board with it. People have only ever elected a liberal or a conservative (current) Prime Minister for the last century and a half. The odds of the next Prime Minister being a NDP or Green Party, who are both for legalization, are slim to none.

A fine is still a penalty. How many fines can you afford? What happens if you fail to pay?

Good question. I'd be interesting in hearing the answer.

In most states if you have a lot of unpaid traffic tickets don't they put out a warrant for your arrest? Perhaps this is the same.

Perhaps they will just include it in Bill 212 which takes effect in May. They could also include the unpaid fines to the existing legislation that limits licensing to those with outstanding debts.

How they collect them would depend on if the fines are considered provincial or federal. Provincial they could amend Bill 212. Federal would probably have to come under license renewals much as fines and child support arrears do now. Federal could also have Revenue Canada enlisted as part of a collection body.

No matter whether it's a criminal charge or a misdemeanour fine involved - NEVER PLEAD GUILTY!

Make the system pay. Make it too expensive to try to take away our freedom.

Jesus! Hasn't he done enough with Operation Longarm? You know how much that failed... Half the people want to legalize it anyways, he's just spending so much money trying to "fix" the drug problem, but it's just throwing our tax dollars away! That bastard is just doing it for his silly conservative image and it needs to stop!

    bullshit.

they've driven us into enormous debt.

just like they did under mulroney who left us with the greatest debt and deficit we've ever known.

like the democrats under the dirty but lucky clinton, chretien's liberals (with finance minister martin) righted the ship for us, eliminating the deficit and paying down the debt.

now, under the conservatives, we're right back in the shitter.

    they are republicans.

they do nothing for anybody but themselves.

they talk responsibility and paint the opposition as irresponsible, but in reality the game is to spend the country into a position of having nothing left so that the democrats/liberals will be able to do nothing to advance society when and if they should aquire power - they are too strapped and must right the ship. again.

voters should be ashamed of their stupidity. americans love stupidity. canadians are supposed to be smarter. they used to be, but the culture here, through the power of marketing, of controlling the message, is becoming more and more americanized every day.

hsrper is an enemy of the people - a republican nazi fuck.
