A question about living in the States.

I DO have alot to say,
and if yu don't see that Mojo is just an imature kid with childis dreams you're blind.

You can't hanlde me coz i'm too direct.
But bottom line is, i don't care what you think of me. I have my opinion and i always say it out loud.

 

How can you call someone else's dreams 'childish' and 'lame'?

And how can you tell me I'm immature based on forum posts? Then again, based on your topics ("How to keep my boyfriend?") I'd say you're about 13 and based on the way you write, I'd say you're about 8. Go figure.

 

If you can't see that the good far outweighs the bad, then you're just naive. From what I have heard, it was rare for there to be toilet paper in restaurants as late as 1995. Of course there are corrupt politicians here, Latvia was occupied by the Soviet Union for 50 years, and within that system, corruption and bribery was like a way of life. I know you can't have missed the latest scandal - the one with Endziņš and Zatlers. If you know what "Kas notiek Latvijā?" is(which you probably do), then there was one episode where the viewers were asked a question: Who better to be president? Endziņš, Zatlers, or Kalniete? Endziņš got 4000 votes after the first 2-3 minutes. In the end, he had something like 5-6 times more votes than Zatlers, and Zatlers STILL got elected by parliament. So yes, I agree the system is corrupt, but would you rather be living in Moldova? Georgia? Kazakhstan? I know I wouldn't. And as soon as the old generation dies, along with it shall die the Soviet way of thinking, and then (I hope) things will look up for everyone.

As for being well off, stop making assumptions. My father left the Foreign Service as soon as his term(don't know if that is the right way to say it) in America ended, which was over 4 years ago. He came back to Latvia for a year to try to get a stable life going so that we wouldn't live in uncertainty when the rest of my family and I came back from America. During that year in America, we barely scraped by. I remember, one month, we had $32 dollars to buy food, because everything else was wasted on bills. THIRTY-TWO dollars. As in, 16 lats. Now that we've been living in Latvia for 3 years, we aren't that much better off. There is ALWAYS a lot of stress about getting the bills paid on time, and I suspect(Although I do not know - my parents are pretty good at keeping this tēma a secret from me) that we are in a lot more debt than my parents let me know about. STILL - life GOES ON. I just try to look at the bright side of things. I will admit, there are times when I just pretty much lose hope and get depressed, but those times pass. There are ups and downs in life - when you're down, you never think your going to be up again, and when you're up, you're never happy with what you have.

Believe me, I want to change things as much as you and Mojo do, but for now, when we're still underage, we really can't do anything, so you should tough it out until you're 18 and get rights.

On a lighter note, it's nice to see another Latvian on these forums. Which part of the country are you from?

 

Corruption is in all countries not just ex soviet states. America has a lot of corruption too, Italy is one of the worlds richest nations, the maffia controlls it all.

I dont have much hope for Estonia, foreign companies dont need to build factories and invest in Estonia making Estonia richer.
Its in the EU so they can import Estonians to work in their companys and still give out low salurys.
Almost all the factory and construction companies in the west is having more and more eastern european workers.

They cant realy invest in tourism like UAE and Monaco cause it needs to be summer and warm all year long for it to work.

Estonia is growing and will keep growing economically, since its such a small country you can see it everey day. But it will never be like a western country.

And why do you people always talk about not being old enough? You are deciding its impossible.
If you go when you are 18 you will realize you cant do some things cause youre not 21 e tc.

An Estonian in California will not be seen as an illegal immigrant cause its so many mexicans evereywhere, you dont even need to stay low there. You speak realy good english, you can work at Mcdonalds, they hire immigrants cause it cheaper, but they cant communicate, I asked for a napkin they didnt know what it was.

You can call someone's dreams childish if they really are! I mean HELLO! You realy beleve that you'll go to Hollywood with couple of thousand bucks in your pockets and get into the movie industry with your 16 years and everyone will take you seriously? There is a better chense that you'll get robbed or raped on your way to Hollywood.
If you really want to be in that industy try in your county, if you're good, you'll make a beter living there.

And i gues you didn't actualy read my thread "How to keep my bf?" and you make the conlusion just by reading the stupid title.

Aladdin - the reason I say that we can't do pretty much anything until we're 18 is because no one takes underaged kids calling for political change seriously. It's sad, but it's the truth. They might think "Oh, that's cute, they're so naive," or just totally brush them away, like my history teacher: "DISCIPLINE IS THE GREATEST FREEDOM! NO! I DON'T WANT TO HEAR YOUR OPINION!" and he bascially just overrides everything I say. Also, it is a lack of... well... practical experience? I dunno... Well, let's say it like this: I have a lot of ideas on what I want to do - I want to start a Food Not Bombs, I want to protest Latvian troop involvement in Iraq, I want to call for radical left wing reform(Which is nigh-impossible here, since you get branded a communist and ostracized by your community, and if you're russian and calling for change, you get brushed off as just another radical left-wing commie), but I don't know where to START. I hate the beauracracy involved, but if I do something without permission or smth like that and get arrested or my parents fined, then there will be a shitstorm between me and them, which is the last thing I need, and... aiyhh.

To put it shortly, my mother summed it up nicely: "Once you're 18, you can go protest, smoke pot, do whatever you want, but I don't want the arrest wagons pulling up to our house in the middle of the night and me getting fined hundreds of lats or you getting sent to juvenile hall as long as you're living under our roof."

When did you call people names? All throughout this thread. Your negativity amazes me, not only in this thread, but practically in every other thread you post in. You seem to have that stereotypical American black girl attitude of "I don't take shit and say what I want...sistah!". It's not good for you. You have some issues and insecurities that you have to deal with before you reflect them onto others. I am also sure that you're much nicer, and much more shy in real life... this forum just gives you an outlet for your negativity... which is alright, but you have to remember that you are talking to real people here... not just names on a screen.

...and as to his dream... I am not one to judge a dream. Persuing it is impossible, literally... impossible.

It's kinda nice to know that America still has it's magical glow and effect on other nations.

I remember, when I lived in Russia and Israel, America was this faraway dream... with such notions that seemed completely impossible to me at the time... freedom, peace, equal opportunity, etc. Ofcourse, I realize that America is probably not as good as it sounds by the time I was 12. The whole utopic notion of such a land of no persecution is what has brought millions upon millions to America.

Most of them must be terribly disappointed when they get here.

Maybe Mojo does have his sites set too high, and maybe he will get eaten alive (see my post if you want to know how I feel about it) but it's not for you to say if his dream is childish and immature. You fail to realize in your 17 years of earthly wisdom that no dream is really impossible if you want it enough, and for some people it's better to be crushed trying to do what you want than live a sedintary life.

You've told Mojo that you think his dream is immature, but unlike Ruben and myself, you've failed to give him any constructive assistance. That's the problem, and THAT's what really immature.
