For some reason I thought you lived alone. As long as Captain is in good hands I guess you are allowed to galavant. [IMG]

My grandpa was taken to the hospital last night and then transferred to a hospital in the capital where he underwent surgery in the middle of the night. Surgery went well but he's still in the cardiac ICU. He's been dodging bullets for a couple of years now but....he is 86. :(

Thanks. The initial problem wasn't his heart. It was a very bad hernia that was a result of having part of his intestine removed a couple of years ago. He even went up to Mayo Clinic and the doctors said he needed the surgery but they were worried about his heart during the surgery. At the time, that concern trumped the hernia so they wanted him to wait on the surgery until it absolutely had to be done. I guess that was last night at around midnight.

I wasn't able to get down there to see him today. I've been keeping tabs though. I'm damn near his only descendant. My mom (his only child) lives out-of-state and my only sibling is my brother who hasn't talked to grandpa for over 20 years (totally selfish, drama queen behavior from him). But I guess grandpa is being a little ornery so he must not be doing too bad today! :)

Ah, sorry... When you said cardiac ICU I figured heart attack.

Drug that Ranch King mower over to the driveway near the garage today before closing down for the night... Antique Gilson/Bready pulled it like it wasn't even there. Sounds like a no-brainer until I mention it doesn't roll because the tires are "perma-flat"... Who knows how many hundreds of pounds of dead weight that was. What does the biggest Husqvarna lawn tractor weigh? (yeah, I've found out that model of Ranch King Pro is actually a budget Husqvarna.... SCORE!)

    Love that antique tractor.

Gonna need all 4 tires on the Ranch King... even though the fronts "sort of" hold air they are just as dry rotted as the back. Even though the mechanicals are good on the Ranch King it's gonna need a complete going through. Need to clear tractor space in the garage, do maintenance on the MTD (current mower) and John Deere first and then pull the Ranch King in and tear it down. Antique is going to need work too when I get around to it... Mostly steering and front tires.

Wish I had more/better tools like welder, drill press, grinder, etc. but that won't be happening. At least any time soon.

Can you just fill all 4 tires with that foam fill and call it good for a while?

I'll tell you guys something that amuses me to no end about my grandpa. He is stubborn and when he has his mind set on something...well....goddammit...that's the way it ought to be. Unless I suggest something different. His wife and my mom (who only recently moved) will talk to him until they are blue in the face about something and he will insist they are wrong. Then they will ask me to talk to him. In one sentence, I can say "You know, Grandpa, I see what you're saying but if we do it this way....I think it'll work out a little better". That's it. Then he will say "You think so, bud? Well, hell....I suppose you're probably right. Let's just do it that way!" Hahahaha! They've been telling him that for days. They just shake their heads.

Just tried to talk to him twice and got hung up on both times because he hasn't figured out how a cell phone works. The first time he said "Hello? Hello?" about 8 times. Grandpa....turn the phone so the ear part is on your ear!!

You know what I found difficult?

Drinking 2 oz. of Bragg's Apple Cider Vinegar is difficult.

I chased it with 8 oz. of Apple Juice.

It's difficult to not throw up.

There are actually things that I've heard that drinking that stuff helps with. But I've heard you have to just chug it. I can imagine how hard it is. I suggest chasing it with a nice IPA but that's my suggestion for everything. :)

Sorry to ramble on about my grandpa but....my dad is dead so my only grandpa is pretty important to me. You know what I think I'm going to do? My grandpa has raised horses for his entire life. Last year we sold his last horse and all of the stuff like saddles, blankets, the trailer, etc. He wanted me to have it all but I just don't have a place to keep horses. Three years ago, he was still riding horses in parades and he was still taking care of them every day until the last one was sold.

So here's my idea.....I want to give the old man one more ride. If I don't, he will probably never be on a horse again. I want to have him, myself, my wife and my kids all go out to a place where they charge to ride very gentle horses on a trail. There is one nearby. I've been there. Those kind of horses just walk the trail by themselves. Totally safe....not that we don't know what we're doing....but we can give him one more ride with us and I'd love it. I'm totally going to set this up.

Edit to say...I'm sure he would love it too!

One last point about the old man and then I'm out.....he has never, ever heard me say a swear word. It's never happened. I haven't even said "damn' in his presence. He wouldn't care at all but I do. I swear like a sailor but when I'm around my grandpa...no...I don't talk like that. He does all the time but I don't. It was just a few months ago that he saw me drinking a beer for the first time in my entire life.
