Hahahahahaha..... MTD drive belt replacement includes pulling the engine, almost, and half of the pulleys. Glad I'm doing this now and not at the height of mowing season. May as well take the whole thing apart, clean, lube, tune and modify everything I want... and build me a new tractor.

Gotta push the Wood Rat out of the way and tarp it for the time being.

:D Yeah, I know for a fact banks don't charge businesses that much for a stop-check charge. Banks do charge individuals, as opposed to businesses, (I don't know how much, but that sounds about right) for a personal stop-check.

I feel like the rest of what are called sheeple just to get (most of) what is owed to me for the hours I'm worked like a plow mule. yay for recognizing one's own limitations and "compromises", huh. lol

Went to bid that tree today. It's not good but it's not as bad as the other tree guys made it out to be. I see no reason why I should have to do this tree. So I called the customer and he said he had two questions....can I do it and will I do it? I don't really want to do it so I really high-balled it, hoping to bid out of it. I gave him my price and strongly recommended that he get other prices (which would certainly be cheaper than mine). I even told him flat out "My price is high. We are specialists at these kinds of jobs and you don't need specialists on this job. Someone else will do it for cheaper". I don't know how much more honest I could be. He was very scared of this tree and I even tried to tell him...yes....it's cracked but it's probably been cracked for a long time...knock on wood but it could stand like that for a long time. Having other tree companies tell him it was too dangerous for them and it needs to be done yesterday probably didn't do anything to alleviate his fear. He didn't bat an eye at the price. He just wanted to know how quickly we could get it done.

I suppose I could have just said we didn't want to do it but I guess a couple of people told him we should be the ones to do it. He's pretty scared and wants to feel like he's in good hands. I also know that some guys around here say they will do a tree and don't show up for 6 months...or never. And, I know all too well how it feels to be waiting on contractors to get their shit together and get something done. So I told him we'd do it. It will be completely done on Saturday. Maybe we'll start Friday afternoon even so we don't have to be out there all damn day on Saturday. I hate working weekends but my guys love it. They'd be out there every Saturday all summer long if they could. It works out much nicer for me when I can just let them go out and I don't have to. That will not be the case this weekend. I will at least be there.

There is a bracket on the carb that has the cable mount and two movable arms that control throttle and choke... Those two arms were connected by a bent metal rod with z ends on each end and a loop in the middle... That rod broke. Sounds easy fix but the arms are mounted with bushings/rivets, not bolts and getting two z ends in place with both arms mounted isn't possible. The whole assembly was meant to be sold as one part, not rebuildable. (We are talking a '60s Tecumseh, so this part is unobtainium) Besides all this the damn thing is a pain in the butt the way it mounts on the carb mounting studs...

Warning, big-ish image... It's that white bracket.

I'm just going to look into getting a more modern setup, like for a go kart and adapt that somehow... It's a bitch not having certain tools or I would build the whole assembly myself. At the moment it's a stalled project, I need to rebuild my mower.

Can you grind the heads down on those rivets and punch them out and reassemble with bolts?

pretty sure i have a few of those

that z bend loop thing in the rod is the way to adjust the governor speed...

    3 pics in cheese album

that rod looks easy to make though if you have the thing removed and in your hand...especially if you have the broken pieces to get the length right

came off an H70-130210E ser 9317C that was from a 7hp ariens blower like the web pic you posted

those nuts that hold it on will just spin...you need to take off the whole small manifold and use a phillips from the back to get those carb nuts off

This is an H50... H70 parts are the same. It's really a pain in the butt to work around because of the way it mounts. Those screws spinning wasn't the problem, it was getting a wrench on the nuts at all to tighten the carb. It also blocks easy access to the low speed carb adjustment. It could be fixed if I ground off one of those rivets so I could reattach a new rod. With both arms mounted there no way to connect the z ends.

If you have one, yeah, I could use it, but seriously there's got to be a better way. I haven't studied it yet but I found a thread on an Old Mini Bike forum that deals with a different system for this engine. There may be something there that works. Whatever I end up with I need to keep the governor, it's a work engine, and that linkage is still intact.
