Erin instinctively hates raccoons.... They raid bird nests for eggs.

the raccoon family I had 2 yrs ago was the coolest of my wild animal experiences .. four of them just the friendliest ever,.. even the one that was stuck in the railing I thought it might bite me but it somehow knew was helping it. they just climbed all over me standing on their back legs throwing me high fives .. of course the peanut butter cookies helped ..

I have a good friend who has a bunch of raccoon's in his old milking parlor on his farm. He's a fellow tree guy and in the spring, sometimes you drop trees with baby raccoon's, squirrel's or whatever in them. So he raised one. Then he got another one....and then two more. They had babies. I don't even know how many are out there now. Maybe 10 or 12. They're mostly tame. A while back I was like "Dude...they will keep breeding. What the hell will you do with all of them?" He said he would open up a way for them to get out and the ones that want to leave can leave. The ones that want to stay will continue coming back because it's like their den. They want to get out but they also want to get back in. They already get out sometimes but they go back home eventually.

Took my daughter to dance this evening. As soon as I started the car she turned the station to the Grateful Dead channel. That's my girl! No coercion from me at all. Every once in a while we'll hear a more rare song and I'll ask her if she's heard it before. She will say <insert 11 yr. old eye roll> something like "Dad....I've been listening to them for my whole life! I'm pretty familiar with their music." Well....very well, then.

warning.....extreme graphic description of what happened....do not read if hurt animals makes you cry

Meet Brutus, a loving Rottweiler who was recently given a chance to enjoy a richer, fuller life thanks to four prosthetic limbs that were outfitted to his amputated legs. After the 1.5-year-old dog was left outside in the freezing cold when he was just a puppy, he suffered from severe frostbite on all of his paws. His breeder crudely hacked off the afflicted paws at home, leaving Brutus maimed and unable to walk without extreme pain.

Our neighbors have had red foxes in their yards.

Last week, one supposedly was seen "dragging it's hind legs" and was dead in a driveway the next day.

Another was seen last night coming from under a garden shed and "hunched in the hind quarters" or something.

The lady that's been reporting this is afraid of all animals. She's already told me that an o'possum hissed at her granddaughter during the day.

She thinks anything she sees during the day is rabid.

Animal Control told her they won't come out because it's normal wildlife.

I hope the woman will leave them be. I'm sure they probably have kits under the shed.

She'd be a fun one to take camping (not).

What a nut! She would hate my yard. Animals all over the place. I love sitting on my deck and watching them all. At any given time there may be 6 or 7 (or more) animals out there...not including our chickens or all the birds we feed. I enjoy watching them interact with each other. They don't seem to be very afraid of me. I never bother them. They just move to the side when I want to walk past them.

I almost had a pet Fox in California.... He was a pup when I first saw him (her) and was getting really tame with me. Then I got Koa and the first evening I was walking Koa, here comes the Fox wanting to play. Koa turned and barked. Never did see that Fox again. :(

There's a fox behind the doctor's office where my daughter works. It comes and eats and drinks what they put out for the feral cats. She took a pic of it. They come to associate people with food.

They also had a bat in the offices all day. It was injured or sick. Some guy took it home over night and was supposed to take it to the wildlife rehab today. I don't know if it lived through the night or what because my daughter worked out of a different office today.

Good news! My customer with the huge tree bailed on this weekend. Evidently, he can't get all of his ducks in a row before then. Honestly, I was having a hard time getting my people together on such short notice for this weekend job. Normally it isn't an issue but the cards were just not falling into place. I did not want to do this with a skeleton crew. It can be done but I'd rather have an "A Team" on this. It might sound odd but this morning I just wasn't feeling the vibes. I can almost sense it if we have issues and I was feeling it. So when he called it off, I was happy. I told him that we will get there tomorrow to eliminate the threat to his house. That should be done right away but...that buys everyone time on the rest of it. The rest of the tree is completely safe. That gives him more time to do what he has to do and I have more time to put a stud crew on this. He's happy, I'm happy. Good deal.

I saw about 9 red foxes crossing the road one morning. I also saw about 9 deer crossing together in that same spot.

I'm sure that there's all kinds of stuff in my back woods. I have 9/10 of an acre that backs on a creek. All of it is natural except for the tiny little spot of grass in the front. That's like 4 passes with a push mower.

In fact, last week I had my little spot certified as a National Wildlife Habitat. It only cost me twenty bucks.

There was a bear on my property in California... It kept the Coyotes away.

That Bear was one of the few things Thor would bark at...
