I've heard from the neighbors that there is a relatively tame fox around. I haven't seen it but we make sure to lock the chickens up every night. So far...no problems. But I know of a few places where there are a bunch of foxes. I spend a lot of time in places where there are no people(except for us)...in the trees and timber with animals, creeks, rivers, etc. I love it. Sometimes I can't believe I actually get paid to be there. Once in a while, we'll take an extended break just because it's so beautiful....as long as everyone shuts up and just enjoys the scenery.

The groundhogs feasted on my herb garden. Didn't plant one last year. I need to plant a few things. I get such a satisfying feeling when I eat the food I grow.

Random as they come... I tend to over think things...I need to learn to just let things be. Trying to find a balance...not easy!

I live in the city,so not a lot of deer or foxes here. The bike trail has snakes!!!! Have seen several (snakes are not my favorite...nor people who are snakes!).

    That's the dang truth!

I've give ANYTHING (almost) to get them come chew up the snake-bed vinca that is everywhere here. It's really invasive and I can't comprehend people wanting to buy it, but they do. They buy it in nurseries, not here. lol

    Anyway...

Local deer prefer to just wait until all my pansies are blooming at once and come graze off all the blooms. :-/

I'd feel weird around a tame fox. Those that have suddenly turned up acting tame around here have wound up dead/with rabies...and infected animals and people.

I've seen: a herd (?) of deer, like 5 and up to around 8 or 9.

a couple troups (?) of vultures

2 foxes at once...a number of them over the years

Lots of possum but only one at a time and at one time 3 racoon

lots and lots of squirrels, ground squirrels and similar

Kitten is so difficult! A human baby is way easier.

I gotta go nap before the next feeding episode.

Maybe I shouldn't say the fox is "relatively tame". It's more like....not afraid of people walking 5-10 feet from it. They said it pretty much just ignores humans. I thought that was kind of odd but again...I haven't seen it myself.

Nah. It was a different customer and evidently an ambitious one.

We got in there on the cracked tree this afternoon. We took a lot of weight off over the house and used a bull rope as an extra precaution on what we left in the air. It shouldn't go anywhere but there is supposed to be. a storm on the way. I left just a little slack in the line so I will be able to tell later if it moved at all.

The guy was supposed to have the utility lines taken down (for the price we gave him). He couldn't get them down on a weekend which is why we won't be there tomorrow and will have to finish this next week. We worked with the lines up today. At least the pain in the ass part is done now.

I was going to post some pics but it says the file is too big. No idea why some pics from my phone are larger than others.

A bull rope is usually a 5/8 or 3/4 inch rope of various different composition...depending on the type of rope. Not hemp these days. The one we used today is a 3/4 inch with a tensile strength of 10,880 lbs. The rule of thumb is to max out your load at 10% of the tensile strength. If that branch goes, it will be well over that 10%. I'm estimating that single branch weighs about 6000-6500 lbs. But the rope is brand new and I think it should do for a safety precaution until Tuesday. If I would have thought about it....we have a "gut line" which is a braided line that that is maybe 1 3/4 or 2 inches. I don't even know what the tensile rating is on that but it's huge. We rarely use it which is why I forgot about it today.

I got that gut line for free. A long time ago (back when this kind of thing could still happen), our crew pulled up at the house of the area supervisor for the utility company (different utility than the one I contract with now). He was the father-in-law of a guy on the crew. They had a couple of booms in the air lifting his 2 car garage. There were about 6 guys turning the garage so the doors faced south instead of west. It was kind of cool to watch but after that, they couldn't use those lines for work anymore so I got them. If I remember right, they said one of those lines was around $1000. So...sure..I'll take them. But they are really heavy and kind of tough to work with because of the weight. You only use them when you absolutely have to.
