This is my hair when it's wet, but when you actually have dreads do you ever wash them?

 

As a Black American guy that started his dreads off with twist let me try to help you out a bit. The two best methods for your hair type are regular twist (aka comb coils, gel twist etc) and double strand twist. YOU SHOULD NEVER TWIST YOUR HAIR MORE THAN ONCE a month. You have people out there that will tell you that you need to train your hair so twist it twice a month. In the beginning that might seem great but down the road your hair will thin out pretty bad.

If I was you Id go to my nearest loctician or natural hair shop and find somebody to start my dreads off for me. After the first 2 or 3 visits to your loctician you can maintain them yourself (it saves you HELLA money by learning to do them yourself and in a weird way its kinda like you get to have a bonding experience with your locs lol) by buying one of the appropriate gels to twist your hair with. Different size dreads dont necessarily go on everybodys head and look right for numerous reasons (but who am I to say what looks right its your hair). Me personally I got all sizes for the most part mine are inbetween small and medium and inbetween medium and large. With whatever decision you make I wish you success.

 

yes u washem lol... hmm i like yer hair def my favorite kind to work with not to kinky but kinky enuf,, i would actaully either latch (my favorite for medium to small locks ), twist (no gel) or twist and rip with yers depending on how fat u want them
and depending how neat and uniformed u want them will depend on if u want to matian them or not....
and im saying this as a hairdresser and loctition lol

Word, I'm now thinking about just maybe getting the medium ones, people tell me they're easier to maintain rather than the thick ones is this true?

twist em a lot in the beginning (and less as they lock), maybe use coconut oil to moisturize

also, don't worry about what any prefers on you, what do you prefer on you?

it's easier to start small and go big, rather than vice versa
