one time a rural garbage dump caught fire around here and it burned for over 5 years

 

I bought some very cool dinosaur stamps today ..they are embossed...I have some cards to mail out and I thought they would be cool

 

The same thing happened here years ago and that fire went for a long time and the smoldering even longer. Scary stuff as it spread for miles before they controlled it, probably due to water issues as well as being rural there were no hydrants, only wells and river to pump from. After that there were stricter bylaws about anyone burning on their property.

campers and hunters (and basic lettering people) dont realize how easy it is for a bottle and some sunlight to light up a fire

 

A few months ago, some neighbors got crazy about burning in a barrel close to their house. That brought up a whole discussion about the fire laws around here.

Our ban lifted on Oct. 1st but now all the neighbors are hyper-aware that one of the laws is that you can't burn less than 100 ft. from any structure. That puts legally burning where we can enjoy it pretty much out of the question.

No burning of stumps is allowed.

I hate these crappy, trouble-causing neighbors.

The way around it is to keep a few hot dogs outside when we burn. You're allowed to cook on a fire.

 

here is 20 feet to structures

which basically rules out everyone because a 40 foot circle is hard to find on lots that are 50 x 150 (and a lot of nearby lots are even smaller)

 

My property is 9/10 acre. The lot is 100 ft. wide and my house sits 40 ft. back from the road. My back yard is all wooded, and sloped. I'm going to burn where I want to and if I get a warning then I won't do it again.

I won't even get a warning unless some neighbor calls just to get me in trouble. The homeowners have always been cool; the renters, and some disgruntled person trying to flip a house for too much money, are the trouble makers.

 

Out here I don't think anybody is going to say anything about burning stuff...



Of course burning garbage is just stupid. But I bet there are people that do that too.

 

watching the jays game for the first time in a while. actually somewhat entertaining.
