I grew up in a house with no central ac, which was pretty uncommon in SC. We didn't even have a window unit until I was 12 or so, and it didn't really cool much of the house. Its funny, I remember being hot but not really unbearably so. Now I can't really fathom not having ac. I don't know if the summers are more brutal or if I've just been spoiled since moving out. We only have one huge window unit now, much like kramer's. The living room and kitchen are always freezing yet we swelter in the bedrooms at night
I use air conditioners during winter still sometimes. I find the noise really relaxing when I try and sleep plus I tend to overheat when I sleep so it keeps the room quite chilled. The moment I break a sweat I'm reaching for the air conditioner. Could be a blizzard outside and warm inside but my sleeping bedroom will be still chilly =]
Never had an AC fall out of a window but a few times a fan has. The first time was a big fan it barely fit in the window. It fell from the second floor window to just about 4 feet from the ground. Somehow that cord and plug held up.
i pretty much never use A/C. i ran it i think twice two years ago when it was a super hot summer and i was living in a third floor apartment. i don't remember the last time i used it before that, and i don't think this house even has it. i basically just shut the windows and curtains when it's hot during the daytime, and open everything up and have fans blowing the cool air in the windows as soon as the outside temperature gets below the inside temperature. generally keeps it comfortable or at least close to it, and you don't have to sit in that oddly stifling A/C air.
Everyone on the planet should put their ac on high and open the doors and windows....maybe that will be enough to stop that antartic ice from melting
But then everyone would use so much power that we'd melt more ice burning.. stuff.. To get the power to blow out the windows. =p
We didn't have a car till I was 12, had to walk to school, in the snow, all year long, in our PJs, up hill, both ways, BESIDE the horse and buggy! Ya know I hadta doit. But seriously, we never had AC as kids at all and I don't remember being unbearably hot at all. Many of my houses I have purchased in the past had AC and I was glad to have it, I think us adults just get spoiled. I have house air and AC off my furnace package and the air goes on during summer and the AC goes on a few times in the summer around July because it does get really hot. Barely any humidity here but if there was I bet it would be on a lot more. I don't mind the heat all that much but humidity kills me. The house air fan is usually enough to keep it feeling cool most of the summer as long as the windows are closed early in the morning till evening. Summer evenings here are awesome, we rarely get bad winds but a little winds chills us up pretty good. I have several out door sitting areas around the yard on different sides of the house that serve as shade different times of the day.
One thing is for certain no one around here would even think about turning on their A/C unit tonight or tomorrow with the wind off the ocean and high temps near 50° F Cloudy light drizzle 46° F RealFeel® 41° Hotwater
I only turn the one in the car on when I'm driving on a warm day. Last monday was one of the few times I was glad there was airco in the car We don't really need air conditioning in most houses here anyway.
the high side would discharge more heat than it removes .. there is a reason why you cant use a window air conditioner in a room with no window. stores in the winter time use the rejected waste heat from freezers to heat the store. heat from these freezers is pumped under the floor where it can be vented to the outdoors or reused..
28*!!! Sheesh I always have it on 16-18 or the lowest it goes. 28* is like a sauna for indoors! And yes, my bills are expensive >.>
Newton's laws of nature are totally wrong with respect to the mechanical essence of anything fulfilled of the absolute three laws of thermodynamics. You mean?
