Mel As I’ve said many time I don’t want to see AOC in a singular sense but in the hope that she is part of something bigger a shift in the tectonic plates of US politics. She has certainly shaken the right as can be seen by the vitriol and sneering coming from that corner, let’s just hope the cracks become a chasm that swallows the far right and collapses the neoliberal dominance. I'm an optimist
Lol I thought this was 6-eyed for a second. If you're serious you are clueless about both the situation in Venezuela and what socialism generally means in western societies He displays some original thought at times but I'm not sure why he added here that it's also a serious question. If a person wants to be regarded as an idiot I would take his current approach
Perhaps Pressed Rat just doesn't think a government system will ever be trusted to put us all on easy street. It does seem like a fantasy as it is presented these days. But then, we have never seen "real" socialism happen yet. Or so I have heard.
Hi Panic so you are posting Where have you noticed this? I understand that many here that have what I think of as right wing views are not Trump supporters, I’d even say that I think some supporters of Trump are not right wingers, I’ve heard some say they voted for Trump because he promised them better healthcare covering everyone and would interfere in the market to create more US jobs. Is Trump a right winger? So why did you watch the superbowl if you don’t like sport? And above all - What in your view is ‘hard left’, what views make someone into a 'hard' leftist?
Mel In the vein of hoping AOC is part of something bigger that is pushing the US into a better future I’d say one of the most important things she has highlighted is the Green New Deal.
I think I read that as many as 70 House representatives and 12 Senators are on board with her proposal. 82 is not too bad a start, but when you look at how many reps are in the House total (435) 70 looks too little. 12 senators though; that's something! The story I read made it sound like more than it really is I think. Still, it sets the tone for future proposals. It mentions many of the key measures we learned about in my Environmental Policy class; such as the renewable energy and stuff. Good policy. I think she's great.
No system is waterproof. As long as humans use it that is How is it presented over there? I think that's communism.
Regarding the Green New Deal, the right seem intent on making it AOC’s Green deal rather than her just being someone that is supporting such a thing they are trying to associate green policies with socialism They did this also with Obama care with talk of it leading to socialist death panels etc. Ultimately that tactic did not work many Americans today are pushing for the kind of universal healthcare found in what right wingers would call ‘socialist’ Europe. The thing is that this is a great opportunity as the old industries slip away for new ones to take their place, manufacturing wind turbines and solar panels for example if the US doesn’t get its act together it will be left behind (Germany and China are already ahead). The problem is that we have people like Trump and others fantasizing about a 1950’s America rather than looking forward to a 2050’s one.
I realize many think Chik Fil a is evil, being "Christian" and all (oh the horror). But this is funny Also, letting the republicans attach this to Ocasio-Cortez is probably what the democrats want. It will cause the republicans to focus their attention on her instead of the other people working on all of this. She's the perfect fly paper in this case. And she seems to take Trump's childish ridicule in stride. I'd like to see her give it back to him with something new though.
Here are some Venezuelan immigrants being interviewed for their experiences under a socialist regime. I mean, my god! Don't y'all just hate it how people who've experienced and suffered under REAL socialism think they know better than an American East Coast girl with a college degree? Look at these Venezuelan retards LOL!
It's funny how woke-progressives don't want you to assume another person's gender or identity without asking. Yet they assume certain European countries are socialist, even though they rank higher on the Economic Freedom Index than the USA.
Those two things are not exclusive. So rather then accept that it's the mental gymnastics of saying "they are free since they are not socialist". I'm not sure what you are driving at here. Many Europeans would say their governments have socialist policy. Few would probably say it's 100% by the Marx book socialism which seems to be your point as I read it.
The fuck are you talking about Again for at leeeasst the 10th time - i'm in favor of a mixed market economy. Single payer healthcare, investments in green energy, free higher education but I prefer the route Tennessee has taken - using lottery funds to offer everyone 2 free years of college. So I dont even advocate using tax funds there. I also favor private/public partnerships when possible. I also favor policies that encourage entrepreneurship and support small businesses. You're starting to make this personal by continuously insisting I'm in favor of the complete government takeover of private industry when i'm not. Not only are you making it personal but you're lying. You have to lie to make a point. I know you arent one who is given to self reflection but you seriously need to reflect on that.
Common right wing point to find people who live someplace and say "see they know how it is. They love America and it's capitalism!" Well not as much as they think I guess since Venezuela is a private sector country. It's not socialist anywhere but theory. Sure problems are possible anywhere people are but it's quite libertarian or at the least American statistical in that country. Money is made where it can be by those who can make it. The general public is not the priority. Oil brings in investment capital.
Your reading comprehension is seriously poor. No shit they rank higher on the freedom index. Why do you think so many Americans are in favor of the same social programs they have in place in Europe. No one thinks European nations are pure socialism. They're mixed market economies. You cant really be that dumb can you
Wow, all the experiences they share. I count...one experience. Which was "people eating out of the trash." Something you can see in any major city in the USA on a daily basis.
Indeed I notice among the I hate socialism crowd they don't ever acknowledge poverty is a thing in Capitalism too.
If you support entrepreneurship and private business, and believe cost is determined by labor, then you’re not a socialist. So why do you cal yourself one? From Merriam Webster: noun : a way of organizing a society in which majorindustries are owned and controlled by the government rather than by individual people and companies Full Definition 1 : any of various economic and political theoriesadvocating collective or governmentalownership and administration of the means of production and distribution of goods 2 a : a system of society or group living in whichthere is no private property b : a system or condition of society in which the means of production are owned and controlledby the state 3 : a stage of society in Marxist theorytransitional between capitalism and communismand distinguished by unequal distribution of goods and pay according to work done I know there’s varying degrees of socialism out there. But for the most part, they all suck.
The USA isn’t capitalist. We are a corporatist economy where corporations write the regulations to protect them from competition. Secondly, capitalism doesn’t guarantee everyone gets rich. Any politician selling you an “ism” that promises equal prosperity for everyone is a snake oil salesman. This is why I believe in equality of opportunity. In socialism, there’s equality of outcome. In the case of socialist Venezuela, everyone’s outcome was the same: eating out of the trash.
