I saw it was a black holiday, because everyone in the marching band was black.

Yeah. It's just sandwhiched between Martin Luther King day and the Black History month.

    well, you've been misinformed.
i live in mobile & i went to fat tuesday.
it was like hippie fest, lol.
not really, but you get the gist.
i don't know about new orleans, though.
in mobile, no one flashes the floats.

i think it's latin for "fat tuesday".
in mobile & in the mardi gras traditions:
the floats ride for about a month before fat tuesday.
normally all week long, there are parades.
the three most important days in mardi gras:
joe cain - is a mobile tradition only, when mardi gras was abolished and/or prohibited back in those god-fearing days of lore where such partyness was considered a sin. well, at the end of that reign, joe cain and a few friends got on a horse and buggy and paraded through downtown mobile. and brought the spirit of mardi gras back on it's feet.
lundi gras- the monday before fat tuesday.
    mardi gras- fat tuesday.

there. may not be completely accurate.
but since i've lived in mobile for 18 years
these are the traditions i've been told.
    so, it's mobile tradition!

    oh and yes.
    mobile, alabama
is where those stupid black guys
    thought they saw a leprechaun.

yeah, that's on the other side of mobile.
the "segregated" side, so to speak.
that's where they gather in great numbers.
it's off-limits for me, called prichard, alabama.

if there's a drug bust, gun shot, crime scene
every one in mobile says "must be prichard".

    =]

i went to basic training with a couple from prichard, al.

of course we thought it was sorta cool cuz my last name at the time was pritchard and now when people hear that my maiden last name is pritchard, they DO ask if i know people in prichard, al. like all people with the last name pritchard must come from prichard, al. :p

My great aunt lived Southwest of Mobile, in Baldwin. She died, though...

Katrina and whatnot. She was diabetic. They had the funeral in Georgia, though, as... well, how could you bury people down there at the time.

Sometimes I miss it down there... now I don't really have a reason to go anymore. She lived in Dahlonega, GA, but decided to retire in Alabama of all places, since it was cheaper than Florida and Pensacola/Apalachicola was next door.... and all the little barrier islands around where she lived. Otherwise, the only other family I have down there is a second cousin. She lives on the Florida side, though, on the gulf. She got laid off from her job, so she came out of the closet and just gets drunk and goes fishing every weekend in Bradenton Beach.

Haha, I've never met her, though, always wanted to, but I knew her mom.

but yeah, i love it here.
even amiss the redneck population, lol.
it really is beautiful down here.

Well, I just don't worry about other people. I don't always like being all at the same levels.

Most places are either ridiculously expensive or suffer a lack of work. I'm just thankful that I am somewhere, most of the time. Unless my disorder bs sets in...

haha... sometimes I feel like I'm more than one person.

Nah, nah... I have Major Depression Disorder + Cooney... or Cagney's Disorder. I can't remember the exact name, but it's a mild form of Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. My friends would think I was having an acid flashback or something (LOL... etc.), even though I've only done it once.

Anyway, I've had depression since an early age, but never bothered to get a proper diagnosis (had no idea about the other one) till I was thirteen or fourteen.

you could still have an acid flashback even if you only have done it once.
a friend of mine only did it once and has more acid flashbacks than i ever have.
and i've done it a bunch of times and i've ony had a few flashbacks.
but they only happen bc of some outsife influence like extremely bright and flashing lights.
