If they advertise "all you can eat" then that implies all a person can eat, with no limit set to what that might be for each individual. Perhaps they need to add a sneaky disclaimer in the fine print about a "3 bowl limit" or some other stipulation. Personally I do not eat from buffets. I find that getting my meal from something equipped with a sneeze guard is unappetizing.
oh geeze..i just realised my favourite buffet place doesnt even have sneeze guards oh well..it tastes fine :d
It is a good point that this person raised. You cannot tell people to eat as much as they can and then bann them for eating too much. If restaurant owners can go banning and insulting whoever they want that also allows racial discrimination and bad service in restaurants on the grounds that the owner believes he can serve who he or she wants. Personally I am thankful for this thread, because it shows that when dealing with people to never believe what they say, but read between the lines to find out what they really mean by what they are saying. All you can eat places are not places where you can eat all that you want, but places where the eating of a meal is to be more comfortable by creating the fake impression that you can eat as much as you want through granting you the choice to serve your own meal. In reality you are expected to eat as much as you would normally served in a restaurant, with a drink to make a seemingly cheap buffet just as expensive as any meal.
This restaurant has been open for atleast two years. Many people have been there and eaten as much as they liked. I would imagine have also gone back more than once. So the deal the restaurant has has worked. People are satisfied. Then two people turn up and eat as much as they like for two years. What has gone wrong? I think the manner in which these two people have used the place and treated the staff and others. It sounds as if they have used and abused the restaurant. Most people follow social norms. Most people would not push and shove in front of others - and basically eat as much as they could in the shortest time possible. If they enjoyed the restaurant then convention would suggest they give and take. You buy a few drinks. You respect others that use the restaurant. You take your turn. It may have been a tad rude what the manager might have said. But I can appreciate the frustration. Imagine you had a friend who had fallen on hard times, and you said they can stay at your place for as long as you liked, and could treat the place as their own. Would you expect him/her to take that literally. Would you expect him/her to stay there for the rest of their lives. Eat your food with out replacing it. Generally treating the place as if they were joint owners with their name on the tenancy agreement/mortgage etc etc. I suspect not.
I do not know about you lot, but this thread about all you can eat places makes quite hungry. I think I wil stomp an all you can eat place and pig out the place out so badly the Asian waiters will not be able to get their eye balls back into those slits they have for eyes any more.
Unhealthy food is good for me, but unhealthy amounts of food isn't I prefer to eat the unhealthy food in moderation too though. But actually the main reason I do not pig out regularly at a buffet is because I really think it's the wrong thing to do. If I was the owner I would feel righteous at kicking them out after a month or so as well.
Most places have a sine stating " we reserve the right to refuse service to any one " I dont think buffets make any money on me . I only go when I can eat a whole bunch , but I stop before I get sick . Many years ago I was at a Kings Table (USA) I was right behind a high school foot ball team , and they had eatten most of the meat . I liked a chain called Sir Georges ( long out of bunissnes ) and now we have a chain called Golden Corall , and we have a bunch of Chinese buffets . desert rat
I just did a pound to US $ conversion, 12 pounds is $19.36 Most US buffets are less than that . As best as I can remember Golden Corral is around $10 with a drink per person . I would think for 12 pounds he could get all the food he wanted . desert rat
I think the waiters have scene most ever thing , and even some one that eats a lot wont phase them . If you go to a buffet / all you can eat , do it because its a good value/you like the food / they dont kick you out because your a real pig , ect. desert rat
5 bowls of stirfry is NOTHING compared to some people I know...that completely destroy buffet restaurants. I don't often do the all-you-can-eat places because they make a serious profit from me. I eat what I call "Malia Portions" which is like a half a cup of food at any given time.
The buffets / all you can eat make there money on the " little old ladies " that dont eat much . Some people kind of plan things out , they skip a meal . Saving them selvs for a buffet . I am sure there are a few buffet managers that are thinking " oh my god not him/her again ". desert rat
last time i went to the Chinese place here my friend calls over the Chinese waiter and asks him how to pronounce the words on the fortune from his cookie the guy looks at it blankly then pauses and says "i dont know...I cant read chinese" he was obviously lying and it was funny ..my friend was too stupid to understand that he had insulted the guy and got his ass handed back to him...which made it even more funny
Damn I love buffets! I always go there with a huge appetite thinking im going to eat a dozen plates but end up being completely full after 2-3 plates. My uncle was kicked out of a chinese buffet for the same reason. "You eat too much! You come back no more!". I can see why the owners would want to kick them out, but if you advertise something you should stick to it.
I think the owner should have used those two as advertising. After all;"Eat all you can" & "Eat like a starving pig" are not the same thing-so if they come in that often and clear out the buffet between them each time because the food is irresistable, what a brilliant bit of advertising that would make on local TV & papers....ker-ching!
Sneeze guards don't protect against little kid sneezes. Last time I was at our favorite Chinese place, this little girl sneezed right in some of the food. It was all good, I didn't like that stuff anyway. lol
