I beg your pardon, sir. I would not own an ivory tower. Ivory isn't American because elephants aren't American. My tower is good old American concrete and steel. Encrusted with diamonds, sure, but it's not ivory.
I was trying to translate Neponiatka ... badly. Anyway I thought your towers were cubic zirconium.100% genuine. It means academic , impractical and detached , type of thing. I'm told Russia has phrases like "Only a fool smiles all the time". Which would never be said in England. Apparently I inherited a "typical Russian scowl"... whatever that means
Yeah, it's two things: 1) exceptionalism- the idea that the U.S. is inherently good and therefore exceptional and has the right to stand in judgement of the rest of the world; 2) isolationism- the idea that the rest of the world is out to get 'em or hates them unless they are servile and put the U.S. on a pedestal. It's so ingrained, a lot of Americans don't even realize they are doing it. Rationally, they don't think that way- and yet that's what comes out of their mouths with amazing consistency. Plenty of examples in this here thread---.
jesus god have you actually been here? No. Just no. So naive. We are all just people. Plain and simple. I bet I have a lot in common with you (minus the obvious naiveity on many issues) and Russian citizens than you would think. And even if Russia were becoming better than the US (which I doubt), there isn't a huge difference between the common person of each respective country when you compare the common person of each country to the extremely wealthy of each country. If by some miracle Russia becomes a better place, it won't be for to long with this impending global collapse upon us, unless people wisen up (which I doubt) .....we are all sinking together. Screw American this or Russian that, people simply need to come together as sentient individuals. So sick of all these "a versus b" arguments, left vs. right/ east versus west, etc, all divide and conquer.
I don't see how that stupid little idiom applies to your comment, but I've give you the benefit of the doubt.
Um, yeah you just said Britain was a communist hell hole. Not only that, but its notorious for being so? Granted, various parts are hell holes. But the communist bit is new to me.
Lol, woops. So I have. I don't know why, but my East/West has been fucked up lately. I was caught up with whats-is-face stroking the might iron...sickle...that is Russia that I thought they were talking about Eastern Europe...which is a fucking shit pole.
there's a lotta money to be made here now if you're innovative and hard working. depressions make millionaires.
At the time of moving , I was thinking more of employed work. But yes , especially before the Pound sank , American property looked a terrific bargain. I was almost looking forward to a recession .It can be where most money is made- cheap stocks , property , loan rates etc
