in 1950 i was 2 years old. in 1960 i was 12. i remember the 50s quite vividly and for the most part painfully. the only two things that were worth a dam about the 50s, no "conservative" wants to bring back at all; i.e. an abundance of affordable public transportation, and beyond the boundries of incorporated cities, (and there was a lot of unincorporated space between them, and very small towns that were little more then a post office and a couple of stores) building codes were either non-existant or not enforced.

i would certainly not say that changes since the 50s were for the worst. up until ragun they were all (almost all. the shift in transportation policy that made the automobile god was the one big mistake) for the better, even since some have still been, though at the same time, yes, since ragun many things have measurably gone down hill. but that's precisely because of the 'right's "trickle down" agenda we've all been pissed on, whatever our ethnicity or beliefs, since the 80s.

if there was ever a 'great' time in america in my life, it was the victories the 70s were rewarded by the self sacrafices and heroisms of the 60s.
