Manufacturing is not only being done at a cost scale overseas that it would be nearly impossible to compete with, while still providing a wage for an American to subsist upon.

The larger issue is that many to most of these jobs are already being automated out of existence. Bringing back traditional manufacturing on a large scale is a fantasy that would require an EMP to disrupt silicon chips on a global scale.
