Europe is at least 5,000 miles away and has over the centuries evolved it's own culture given the fact there's dozens of independent nations all grouped together. Canada and America have evolved side by side, settled by the same people, and aside from the very early ears being very close friends with the world's largest open border. America = Canada, Canada = America. Like I said a Canadian writing a whole rant about American culture is essentially writing a rant about himself. Heck any Americans or Canadians here, if you went across the border, especially if you were staying within 200-300 miles of the border do you really even feel like you've gone into another country aside from the fact you had to pass through customs.

True, but it seems like for once we're actually doing the opposite of what's expected from each country. Legalized marijuana went on the ballot in California while Canada's senate passed a mandatory sentence for growing.

Yeah, well hopefully that will change when Harper loses...

Beyond that though, our laws are still more lax in regards to weed then any state in the US... People who have a legal prescription (easier to get every day) aren't even bothered under this new law.

Besides which, they would still have to prove intent to sell even without a prescription.

Have you ever noticed how nice people in Toronto are. Then when you visit Ottawa people are still really nice, but not quite as nice as the people in Toronto. But when you cross the river into Quebec from Ottawa people get really rude in about two microseconds. They will only begrudgingly speak English to you. They won't put your change into your hand when you attempt to buy something. Hell most of them barely look you in the eyes when you talk to them. I wonder why that is?

What the fuck. Ghandi wasn't a militant. Your perception of Ghandi is completely opposite of the truth. I really have nothing to say to this thread, it is so stupid, ignorant as shit. Although I know where the motivation comes from, but the stupidity it requires to blanket a whole population with one perception is the exact ignorance that can be found in many Americans.

For someone calling others stupid and ignorant, you apparently have yet to learn how to spell Gandhi...

You'll get that in just about any setting- picking a lowest common denominator to judge an entire population. I think we're being offered a chance to see ourselves as much of the rest of the world sees us and instead of wondering what about our culture helps create this we attack the messenger.... though the manner of the attack itself dignifies what the messenger asserts.

The illusion that we have it good here is becoming more difficult and expensive to maintain. Our political system propagandizes us into accepting the status quo by continually mislabeling party endorsed candidates as reformers; time and time again we willingly buy into the deception. We have a consumer culture that programs us to prize instant gratification over long term economic security and by buying into its message we place ourselves on a very short leash- beholding to a system that enslaves us.... that places us in a position of accepting a hand out from the very entity we should be fighting.

Our politicians even now are pitting us against ourselves- not only making use of class envy but also using the tool of crisis to maintain a general willingness to progressively give up personal freedom and power for the illusion that we are more secure and for a crumb that might trickle down. Corporate profits hit an all time high while unemployment continues to climb yet there are some within our government who are calling this a recovery... the very same people who accuse the opposite party of holding the unemployed hostage for the sake of tax cuts for the very wealthy... and I wonder who is the real elitist here. Short answer- both parties are.... so I do have issues with rhetoric that seems supported by any premise that specifies only one political faction for demonization... but because most Americans are programmed to seek the easiest answers we buy into the transparent deception again and again.

And we wonder why so many on the outside see us as lazy and stupid.

How is that relevant? I spelled it the way the poster spelled it. Spelling mistakes have little to do with ignorance. I never said I was a *Gandhi expert, I at least know that being a militant and having Gandhi as an idol doesn't make sense.

Thanks for pointing the finger at me for calling one person ignorant when the OP is labeling everyone that falls under one population of one nature.

And that was a good post Stinkfoot.

Edited. Not because it is what I think, and I agree. I don't know if it's something to agree or disagree with but it's good because it offered a different perspective.

Actually, in fact, spelling mistakes have a lot to do with being ignorant.

    Ignorant
    1. Lacking knowledge or awareness in general; uneducated or unsophisticated.
    2. Lacking knowledge, information, or awareness about something in particular: "ignorant of spelling"
