I would. In a heart beat too. So would all of my friends. Right now I am doing harder work for less money than that.
'Finnaz' if a country cannot control its borders they are in big trouble. You can absolutely prevent people from comng in,and they are NOT moving freely, they do not belong here.Try to be an illegal in Australia and see what happens, jail then kicked out!---"Hippie Hillbillie" I do agree Americans have become a bunch of lazy ignorant people. However no-one in their right mind would work for 8 dollars an hour.In the UK the "minimum wage" is 5 GBP,over 10 dollars an hour.America has 20 MILLION illegals and prices are going up faster than ever,so something is very wrong.America can learn from Australia.
the work is available.. what area are you in? all you have to do is google farm employment seasonal.. my wife spent her whole life in the farming industry and was with a illegal for 6 years, ive worked construction therefore worked around them for over 20.. i know the wages they are paid, i know for unskilled labor they are fair wages and what the market will bare.. i also know that if you are willing to do the work for the same wages as they, you will be hired ahead of them in most instances.. i will say that you can expect in the farming industry for the employer to be skeptical that you will do the work, but if you wanna work convincing them will be no problem...
'neodude" The main reason your salary is so low and your working conditions bad are illegal immigrants. If illegals are deported, your salary would probably double and you would have a much bigger choice of places to work.
you have to remember farm wages here, because its considered "temporary"are usually paid daily in cash.. a 100 bucks a day cash for a 12 hour day is not that bad of money IMO.. but if you think its a shitty wage,,then maybe aussies are just as spoiled as americans...
and inflation would double.. so the wage increase wouldnt mean a thing.. you cant pay more for labor without increasing price of product.. that is a simple fact of economics.. besides that with unemployment at only 5% there isnt enough of a work force to take 20 million illegals places..... geeze people just dont think logically anymore......
Could you please explain how you can absolutely prevent people from coming into a country? Ans while you are at it, I need to ask you, where do YOU belong?
hippiehillbilly, when you said 12 hours a day, is that still 40 hours a week max? or do they work you more than that without overtime pay? I dont know much about farm work. I imagine though if they are hiring illegals they probably dont really play by the rules.
dude,,in farming there is NO SUCH THING as a 40 hour week.. no thats 12 hours a day(or more) 7 days a week till the crop is harvested... no there is no overtime.. hell i dont get overtime and i have been with the same company 21 years... ahh the spoiledness is rearing its ugly head i fear......
dilligaf said the last farm she worked on they didnt consider you "full time" till you worked at least 60 hours a week.. and ,,that was just to get your insurance etc.. NO overtime... her average week was between 80 and 90 hours a week. she has 5 years college and was the parlor manager when she left after 12 years. when she quit she was paid 13 dollars a hour insurance and her housing and utilities were free.. if you think about it,,thats DAMN GOOD MONEY!!! thats about as good as it gets in the farming industry..
it really is though. 80-90 hours a week at $13? oh one more question... I suppose the income isn't taxed right?
i should say in field work as with most construction there is no hourly wage, you are paid piece work.. i havent worked by the hour in over 20 years.. thats why there is no overtime.. the wage per hour is a guesstimate based on what your average worker in said job makes per day....
no in field work its not taxed,, in her or my instance where we are full time employees yes it is,was taxed...
Well, I've planted trees in Australia, harvested bananas, picked new potatoes by hand in Italy, worked in the plastic growhouses in 40C picking tomatoes, amongst other things. The work was always a minimum of 10hours a day/ 6 days a week. And that was a bare minimum. The hourly rate might be a little small, but the hours are there for you to work, if you need/want the money. Most people are too busy standing around complaining with their hands out. That's why immigrants, legal and illegal, get the work. Not because they work cheaper, just because they work.
