it makes me sich that big corporations are prospering of hippies, goths, anarchists, and the like. just sickening that the very people we're against are creating a new generation of hippie lookalikes who have no idea what being a hippie is about. i would never buy anything like that, no matter how much i liked the look. i buy my tie dyes from a small local store that hand-dyes them. fight the power!
My pal and i standing around in town, enjoying the night. We noticed the high ammount of anarchy hoodies around and came to the conclusion that anarchy is just an excuse for teenagers to loot stores and break things because the feel unloved or unhappy or any combination of many other things. Walking by at this timed happened to be a very small fiest teenager around 15 im guessing who decided to stop and ask us, " You got somehting agansit the anarchs?" The anarchs i guess are the local ganing of fustrated youth. Being rather outspoken i decied to try to give her another point of veiw. Saying to her " Do you realize that you got that nice hoody by paying for it with money which you or your parents worked for and is distributed bye the government and, you bought it from a major coponey which pays its omage to the government?. so do you now see that by wearing that you are defeating yourself? And that the only reason you still have that lovely peice of clothing is because we are not in a state of anarchy. and i have not decieded to take it from you. i mean this in know way as a isult to the other poster around the same age. Just some people have problems seeing the way of things. but often is the case when your mind is clouded with anger and clouds of reefer. and wow i hope that dosent come off to yoda like lol
This is exactly what i bassed an art project on last/this year. We got given the title of ICONS for our AS exam piece. alot of people looked into iconic figures where as i lookedi into kliteral icons, symbols for things. One point i came across was Andy Warhols use of repeating an iconic image untill the iconic status iof it was changed. The Marylin Monroe image no longer makes you think actress, it makes you think "warhol". The thing is the government and capitalist markets cottened on to the youths need for rebelion. The use of such symbols as Anarchy A and Pentagrams and "Peace signs" and the Chje symbol and more recently the Cannabis leaf is a way of exploiting the youths need to rebel and therefore desensitising the symbols being used. Because you can buy a pentagram on every stret corner mean people dont look upon it with the same judgemental eyes as it used to be. Not everyone who wears a pentagram is a pagan, not everyone who wears a cross is christian and so on and so forth. The symbolic nature of the che guevara imaga in its self is anti everything the guy beleived anyway. He was a communist revolutionary, an icon of communism... some would say the leader of a revolution...a communist leader, does anyone else see the irony there initially? Then to make it worse, to de-morralise the guy's beleifs more his same image is taken on by the capitalist industries to make money. He is now a capitalist image of communism. A capitalis tool for making money. All of these "symbols" are whores for the capitalist pimps to sell. I personally then took this with my project and pushed it into more overly used icons which we barely notice anymore, The no smoking symbol was what i used. repeating the image over and over untill it no longer really meant anything. .....sorry about that rant/ramble... but yea... ...this is what my final piece ended up like.
First let me clarify. ANARCHY IS NOT CHAOS OR VICE VERSA. Unfortunatlly a few "hardcore punks" back in the day thought it'd be cool or something and generated this lovely stereotype. Backofthelab, the idea of anarchy is the lack of laws and athority. I can picture a group living under a symbol and imposing its will saying "Thats not anarchy" but that is not what we would hope to achieve. The idea of the sigul is not to form a group but to have a way to show support for such ideology and from that ideology groups will begin to form on their own accord. No if the main goal of the anarchist movement was chaos then yes this would be very hypocritical but its not, so naanaa . I also do not like hot topic =D Jay: Good fuckin on ya man. I wanna hug you lol. Those little angsty teens are just dying for a place to call home and find somewhere to belong. Trust me. We dont want them
yea..the bunch of people who buy anarchy shirts and shit i find is quite stupid...backtothelab...a good movie to see would be the anarchist cookbook..that'll help you understand anarchism alittle better.
But remember... They start off as anarchists but slowly become nihlists Afterthought: But its more like a dictatorship

It's nothing but a friggen disgusting trend around here. This is only partially relevant.....but we sell Jimi Hendrix shirts at this store i work at, and some girl bought the last one....and i was all "damn you, i wanted this shirt!! i love hendrix" and she was all "ooh? I don't really know anything by him, i just like the shirt" WTF????????? How can people abide by trends like this???
Yeah, I know when people do that it kinda makes me wonder too... Like some kid I knew who wore a Beatles t-shirt but never heard of George Harrison. I guess they can be that way if they want, but it's still a little fucked up. A lot of the kids wearing the anarchy sign in my class are doing it for that reason. It's trendy or something. Ask half of them what anarchy even is and they will stare at you and drool.
Rule 1) If you ask someone what anarchy is and they say, "Chaos man! Fuck the goverment," Do me a favor and kick them in the nuts Rule 2) If you buy an Anarchist shirt, it is IMPOSSIBLE for you to EVER be an anarchist because you just soiled the meaning of anarchy. I hate it when these fuckers do stuff like support bands they dont know. Like I didnt talk about how bitchin Zeppelin was before I heard them. If someone asks me about the Beatles I say, "Well all I heard is Yellow Sub and that was pretty cool." I don't misrepresent that which I dont know
I wanna get a shop just to kick people like that out. I won't even sell anything, I'll just talk to them for a while, and if they suck, I kick'em out.
Ok, ok, breath. Where to begin. Hi, I'm Ack. Ok. So the whole anarchy thing... to buy an anarchist T-shirt would be to soil it's name... because anarchists are these magical beings which could never do anything so foul as to *Gasp* buy a shirt displaying thier views. I personaly make all of my own shirts w/ spraypaint because I can't afford to buy shirts from the internet, and because the "Circle A with the line crossing all the way through" doesn't actualy represent anarchy anymore. It used to, now it represents Capitalism eating it's aponants and spitting them out as it's own. It's called culteral apropriation, umong other things. I suppose non of you have heard of "mutual aid"... it's the backbone of a functioning anarchist society (Which does exist, but I'll get to that) Mutual aid means that you live with the support of your whole community, and you support it. That's it, you get food, (or a shirt) without paying for it, because there is enough food, and whatever you do in your society is vital to the survival of others. It's just understood, through a couple generations of de-socialization. It's what makes anarchism work. Up until that point, however, even anarchists have to buy things from time to time, even if it means they pay for an "anarchist shirt". In the long run, anarchists wearing anarchist shirts isn't hurting the cause nearly as much as clueless kids wearing them. Shame on them. I hope they get taken into custody by the F.B.I., where they won't be heard of for a long time. Point number two, what most of you are talking about is called "Nihlism"... not anarchy. Anarchy is a system of community government, federated unions, etc. etc. the most highly ordered state of afairs humans can live under. What you are talking about... chaos, disorder, doesn't mean a thing. It's not effective. Chaos will never save human lives, which is exactly what "fighting for anarchy" aims to do. The badly drawn circle A with the line all the way through, that's what that has come to mean, wrongly. More historicaly correct anarchist symbols are the red and black flag, or the simple black banner. In the 17 and 1800's the red flag meant anarchism, but back then socialsim and anarchism were less clearly differentiated. Anyway, when you see a neat A in the center of a circle, without the line going through, it sometimes correctly identifies anarchy. There are lots of places to read about this... like anarchyfaq.com ... why do I know all this, you ask? Why am I such a know-it-all? Because I'm part of a whole movement that's making it hapen. It's called community building, organizing on a grass-roots level. Most of you, probably middle-class kids, have probably never encountered this idea... anarchists organizing themselves? Why you've never seen anything but black clad kids throwing rocks at starbucks windows. Sure, that's fun, but it's not really effective. Building means of distrobution, production, non-hierarchical forms of society, that's what's going to bring real change. Enough of this "violent revolution"... it's a nice dream, but if we "smashed the state" today, where would we be? Thousands WOULD indeed die. Creating a free society, based on Direct Democracy, that's going to take time and a lot of work.... in short, whatever so and so buys at hot topic is fun to gossip about, but doesn't change a lot. Get involved in your community- start a garden, wear an anarchist sweater while doing it if you must, but do it. Just because you're doing it the smart way, doesn't mean it's not radical. Start now.
The movie "The anarchist coockbook" is the worst piece of capitalism to come out of this century! Any self-respecting anarchist should go to thier local movie rental station with a large magnet and ruin that film! Lets go over the plot. There are a bunch of harmless reformists. They peacefully protest= no harm to any governing body. Along comes the big bad anarchist= capitalist stereotype. He starts doing "anarchist" things! Oh no! He does "Bad things" because "Anarchists" and bad people! He subverts the poor reformests, now they too, are bad people. Moral of the film; stay hip, stay safe, don't think for yourself, believe what figures of authority tell you about dreaded, fearfull... ANARCHISTS! Blech. O.K. peace yall. P.S. debate me on this. I dare ya'.

Goes along with the whole "Anarchy for sale" thing. Or hows about "punk is dead" by Crass, they pretty well sum it up, too. It's more talking about "punk"... but it's the same message. Yes that's right, punk is dead, It's just another cheap product for the consumers head. Bubblegum rock on plastic transistors, Schoolboy sedition backed by big time promoters. CBS promote the Clash, But it ain't for revolution, it's just for cash. Punk became a fashion just like hippy used to be And it ain't got a thing to do with you or me. Movements are systems and systems kill. Movements are expressions of the public will. Punk became a movement cos we all felt lost, But the leaders sold out and now we all pay the cost. Punk narcissism was social napalm, Steve Jones started doing real harm. Preaching revolution, anarchy and change As he sucked from the system that had given him his name. Well I'm tired of staring through s*** stained glass, Tired of staring up a superstars arse, I've got an arse and c*** and a name, I'm just waiting for my fifteen minutes fame. Steve Jones you're napalm, If you're so pretty (vacant) why do you smarm? Patti Smith you're napalm, You write with your hand but it's Rimbaud's arm. And me, yes I, do I want to burn? Is there something I can learn? Do I need a business man to promote my angle? Can I resist the carrots that fame and fortune dangle? I see the velvet zippies in their bondage gear, The social elite with safety-pins in their ear, I watch and understand that it don't mean a thing, The scorpions might attack, but the systems stole the sting. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD. PUNK IS DEAD.
Back in the day, lol if I am old enough to have one of those, I used to carve anarchy in all my notebooks in school and anything else I felt like tagging. Back then I would be asked what it meant, and I tried to make it known to all that asked what the true meaning of the anarchical ways’ of life were. Now a days even that symbol is meaningless. I think I shall now just stick with FUCK THE SYSTEM, at least its pretty self-explanatory.
