i thought lombard street was fun! i have it on a fridge magnet now mathematics....... blah yuck yuck yuckity yuck!! worst teacher in school?? and why?
mrs hickey if you ask why then you don't desirve to know, she is just evil (ask sophie ) worse flavour of yoghurt. Doug
a teacher with the name hickey, i can only imagine blackberry chunky yogurt! ewww Worst looking flag?
sorry to say it but its YOURS. not for what it looks like but for what it means. (sorry but looking at it makes me feel poorly) well actually i think that the NZ flag is physically hideous, its so uncreative and just looks bad, i want a big silver fern on black worst accent. Doug
what does it mean, and why does it make you feel poorly? What bugs me about the NZ flag is that its like the exact same as the Australian.........not to mention it has the union jack on it. You guys should do away with it Hrmm..worst accent...british for guys(british women have sexy voices).........and a very close second for french men............and mexican for women.........i like how most accents sound on women, but mexican comes off very pitchy and annoying to me worst food?(ethnically or just an individual food)
well to know that people prey to the american flag and use it as an excuse to kill tens to hundreds of thousands of people makes me feel poorly. (the accosiation of the flag with freedom, and rightiousness, its a symbol of authoritarian power) the NZ and australian flags are very disgusting, and very similar. but the union jack i don't have a problem, we are afterall part of the common wealth and this does not bother me, infact i like being part of the common wealth. it gives a great hope for me that the world is still a community and that we have friends, if we quit out alegance to the queen, then i think it shows that we are alone. a lonely thought. worst food i would say are olives, i just don't like em LOL. Alltaken
hrmm, i strongly disagree. I dont see how its at all a symbol of authoritarian power. The US has been a democracy for 228 years, far longer than any other nation, and longest in history(Unless you want to callt he roman republic a democracy, but thats pretty sketchy, but possible). I dont see what makes other countries more of a democracy than the US. None of us have a direct democracy(thankfully)..........all of us have the ability to elect our leaders..........so i dont see how the US is anymore authoritarian than say, new zealand. I dont think anyone uses the flag as a justification to kill anyone. But a lot of look at only the bad things the US has done and look over everything good we have done. I dont understand why there isnt anger for european countries who sat by idlely while hundreds of thousands of europeans were butchered in kosovo..........and if it wasnt for the US and britain, it still would be happening. Or australias involvement in eat timor and the slaughter of almost 1/3rd the population(albeit it indirect, but complicit support for the indonesians.) Then we have the wars of conquest for the european powers..........the british empire wars(which you guys fought in). We all have disgusting and shameful pasts. And most recently, 500k in rwanda were slaughtered while the whole world sat by...........ontop of that, the world sat by while 500k iraqi children starved to death because of saddam hussein. I find the actions of all our nations to be shameful. Sometimes NOT going to war is more shameful than going to war. All the western nations(especially the US) need to get their act together and start enforcing human rights violations around the world. We are all sitting by while many sudanese are being slaughtered, and the UN is estimating that hundreds of thousands couldd die and millions displaced.........and no one is doing a damn thing. Sorry for the rant, but i think we all have shameful pasts and presents, which we all need to deal with, immediately. Many nations have achieved amazing things, but we've also failed completely in other regards However, i'm not shocked about your view on our flag... many people have a problem with the US for various reasons from iraq, to mcdonalds to hollywood. Although i do think that everything good we have done is minimilized, and everything bad we've done is greatly emphasized. oh and canada is part of the commonwealth and doesnt have the union jack, but your flag not mine worst tv show theme song?
yet the form of democracy has never been reviewed. the college system is the most corrupt and least democratic of any voting method available in the world. and the US is not changing it, most other democracys dropped this system of voting (or similar) years ago, including my country which switched to MMP, and as newer better voting methods become available we adapt with the times, the us is stuck 228 years ago. yet it still marches around waving this great big "we are the best democracy in the world" sign around (yeah i hear it a lot, the US thinks its the greatest democracy, yet it is looked apon by the rest of the world as a laughing stock.....remembering the florida election issues last election LOL) authoritarin on a world scale, not on a domestic scale. although the later could also be argued. as for history Europe (well britan) was a voting republic for longer, it was similar to the US in that only the elite could vote, and women couldn't..... it did still have a king and queen but the parilment was voted. the flag is a personfication of the meaning held behind it. "freedom" "rightiousness" "god" "democracy" "good" "patriotism" are all ideas that are personified within the US flag. note that during the last elections in the US each candidate did speaches and throughout the speaches the candidates one-uped their oponents every time, it started with one flag, then went to 3, then to 6 then to 20 then to 50.... there is a huge amount of emotion held within that symbol. i have never in my life seen a country more in love with its flag. the burning of a US flag is considered barbaric, to me it is a piece of cloth, if the flag had no meaning people would not be offended when it was burnt. are you serious? do you really not understand. you just said it "countries who sat by idlely while hundreds of thousands of europeans were butchered" how do you see the US actions in iraq? i personally see them exactly the same way that you see the butchering in kosovo, hence i choose not to idlely stand by. is this easier to understand. its about perspective. its the place where arguments become opinion and not fact, and where arguments become unresolvable. well i supported actions in kosovo that stoped the killings, most of the world sent troops there. how about the US involvment with britain to help kill 1 million indonesians? well i totally agree on some things. yes everyone has a dirty past, and IMO i don't live in the past, i care about what is happening now, and currently the US has a dirty present. if i ignore all the US's past and focus only on the present, then i find it shamefull sometimes, not all the time. lets start with guantanimo bay the camp in iraq, and other westernised countries doing bad stuff. IMO countries should lead by example. i agree that human rights violations are the number one priority to fix. but i find it very very hard to accept one country (wetehr it be china or the US or russia) telling all the rest to clean it up, when they themselves are doing the same thing. i think you would find it difficult to accept china telling the US to clean up its human rights violations (that are in direct violation of the geneva convetion), is this not a safe assumption? correct, but i ask whos job is it to do somthing? come up with a reasonable answer and i will totally respect it. i feel that somthing needs to be done about it, but i feel that there are good ways to go about somthing and bad ways to go about somthing. its all good to rant, i love a good rant. Hmmmm well if we take, "personal achievments" and "technological advances" out of the list of good or bad things. i would be interested in comparing a list of the two. i.e. the computer or first airplane, would not be considered on the list. but 500 million dollars of aid to so-and-so. would be. you see i have a feeling that the figures would be rather scary no they don't but then again canada has qubec which has a lot of influence, and the french speaking canadians i doubt would like a union jack on the flag (which is fair enough) if NZ ever got a new flag i would nto like the union jack on it, but i don't see the harm in having it there now. heck yours has heaps of stars on it LOL i don't think it harms the overall feel of it. doug (do do do do do do do do do do do but only coz i hear it all the time Doug
edit: i removed the two posts since i dotn really want to have this type of discussion....if you want to know what i said, i'll pm you the response.....but i really dont want this type of discussion here or to get itno a discussion where one talks about being better or worse.....since i think its foolish to compare western democracies in that way..... i will say this though. The US has done a lot of bad in its history, and its done a lot of amazing things. So have many other nations. The US still does bad things directly and indirectly up to this day, as do all the western nations. We ALL need to improve a lot. Oh, i think we should try and resolve all issues under the guise of the UN.....but if the UN fails to act(like it did with Kosovo), then i think Nato or a similar organizations have the responsibility to act to atrocities around the world. worst cd/tape you ever bought?
