may i make a suggestion on who not to make as your doctor. Dean care ( if there is a dean care in the state that you live in) i am just not happy with how they take care of their patients. example: my 4 year old nephew had to get tubes put in his ears because of all the earaches he has had since he was born and each time he had one the doctor said oh its nothing just let it be and it will go away. and with my youngest nephew he is now hospitalized with either rsv or walking pneumonia (SP??) my sister had taken him to the doctors and all theys said was oh just try to keep him hydrated and he will get better that night he was running a temp and refused to drink or eat and could barely breathe. Im am sorry if anyone here uses dean care i am just venting.

I have never heard of Dean Care, I don't think that there is anything like that around here. If there is I will defaintly avoid it. One last question, I need to start him on only veggies and no fruit for a bit? I know to wait a few days to a week between new foods, but when should fruit be introduced? I guess it is two more questions, how about fruit juices? Thanks again for all of your help.

kai had nothing but trouble with fruit. too much sugar and acid. diaper rashes and sore belly deluxe. she's only now getting to where she can drink fruit juices and eat apples, and she only drinks low acid orange juice. giving kai fruit was like trying to get her to drink human drain-o. vegetables were WAY easier: green beans, peas, carrots, potatoes, YAMS! yams were AWESOME.

Yeah, fruits are way more acidic than veggies. Until you see how baby reacts to the solids in general, it's best to start on non acidic foods, like veggies. Green beans are a GREAT first food. I've not met a baby that didn't like green beans from the very start. Also yams are wonderful. They are sweet, but also as they fall into the yellow/orange/red category, they have more beta carotene (I think), which is something really good for baby to have. :D

I beleive in giving babies foods that taste good. There is no truth to the urban legend that babies who get fruit first refuse to eat veggies. I always gave my babies fruit first, because they liked it AND it was good for them. Then, I did orange veggies (as they are very good for the baby and easily digested) and then green.

You can give fruit first. Banana is said to taste similar to human milk (although, through my experience, mine tastes like SWEET soy milk left out in the sun....bleh) But some babies get the runs or constipated from them. Peaches are nice, and most babies like them. Sage used to "nurse" on a peace, while I was eating them, it was really cute to see her sucking on this peach and making "num num" noises at about 6 or 7 months.

No juice!!!! There is nothing in juice they can't get through human milk, and juice is so full of sugar and too much fluid that some babies fill up on it, and don't want to eat or nurse. Human milk should be their only source of fluid drink for the first 9 months or so, and a little water can be given at meals, if the baby is sitting at the table with the family. I gave my babies an ounce or so of water in a sippy cup when they sat at the table, because they wanted to be like everyone else. Many babies don't have water until after a year, and that is fine, too. We only used it as a socialization toy.
