You think this is all a coincidence, baby? The sudden success around here? The press coverage?

This report is 40 pages long.
After reviewing it it seems that it states that there are many methods used to determine ocean depth and rise, some better than others.
In the introduction the following is observed:
    Further on...somewhere:
I checked the math of one chart and found a rise of 8.82.
Could you please point our what section of the report states that the oceans are not rising by at least 7.5 cm since 1993 and is your contention that the rise is faster or slower, and by how much?

In the panic buying over coronavirus it seems people are disconcerning of the plastic debacle. Pretty much everything being bought from toilet paper to pasta all comes in plastic.

Yep no time to worry about the planet now!

Incidentally, the friend of my friend here buys toilet paper online, it's made of bamboo and comes in a cardboard box with no plastic. I might look it up and start buying it that way.

I wouldn't salivate too much over that. Any savings they derive from this will easily be offset by the subsidies needed to impliment solar and other so-called "green" technology. A large portion of green stuff is being heavily subsidized already, and they still have the same problems with it that they've had all along. Too much environmental damage, limited range, high cost, lack of reliability, safety. I've read that Korea implemented massive lithium tech, only to close them all down to do the high number of fires that destroyed 27 facilities. Again, back to high cost and lack of efficiency. Green tech sounds nice until somebody has to pay for it, and then they start to find out it's too expensive to recover from, either due to safety issues or simple high costs.

Turns out getting us out of those accords was a better idea. Let THEM work out the cost/profitability issues if they want it so badly, instead of using US to figure it all out.

I'm definitely aware of the limitations of each green energy option, but feel that the benefits far outweigh the risks and that if we must we'll find a way to afford it. The $50 billion or whatever it is dollars is a drop in the bucket, but it's a start... :)

    I'm glad I thought of it! Lol. :p j/k

I'd say this pretty well sums up my opinion of electric vehicles and other "green" tech:

I've seen electric car chargers run off diesel generators. :tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy::tearsofjoy:

Of course this is insane, people who have a basic green ethic know that the goal is to power transportation by renewables. Coal plants are obsolete, both those on the drawing board and even operating existing plants in most areas. There is no such thing as clean coal. Renewable generation is well along in replacing coal generation.

  12. Actually first saw these at a shopping centre carpark. They are the real deal too.
You just gotta hope that the carpark has those electricity recharge spots so that people's cars can recharge.
It's no different to filling your car up with petrol.

Climate change: The rich are to blame, international study finds

The rich are primarily to blame for the global climate crisis, a study by the University of Leeds of 86 countries claims.

The wealthiest tenth of people consume about 20 times more energy overall than the bottom ten, wherever they live.

The gulf is greatest in transport, where the top tenth gobble 187 times more fuel than the poorest tenth, the research says.

That’s because people on the lowest incomes can rarely afford to drive.

The researchers found that the richer people became, the more energy they typically use. And it was replicated across all countries.

And they warn that, unless there's a significant policy change, household energy consumption could double from 2011 levels by 2050. That's even if energy efficiency improves

I think it's time to bring capitalism to an end gradually. It's served its purpose. We need to move on.

Nice dream. I think if we have trouble getting a significant amount of people on board with reducing our societal ecological footprint, its better to go with one big change at the time. Otherwise we give them proper reason to not go along at all. I mean people who are not yet ready to give up capitalism aren't all idiots in a longshot either. It's the same with craving a world without borders. I get the sentiment but its not really a good idea to implement on the short term.

    I said "gradually".
The beginnings of moving past it can start now.
