Hmm. Gilligan's gone, but who else? At first I thought Matthew, but he's still here. Maybe Matthew should change his tag from 'almost sexy' to 'almost banned'? Just kidding, Matthew. :)

Matthew can actually share an opposing viewpoint without being insulting. I doubt it was him that was banned.

So why do we think this ANWAR thing was dropped from the bill? I wonder if rebublicans are really starting to worry that they won't be re-elected....

People just can't get out of the frame of mind of continuing to rely on oil, as if there are no solutions other than to drill in more places.

"A hurricane's gonna hit in the Gulf of Mexico"... Wall Street sees the headline and the price of a gallon of gas goes up. Why? Because of the perception of a group of people who have absolutely nothing to do with the making of that gallon of gas. I know, Gilligan, it's how things are done, I know. But it shouldn't. Oil should be taken off the commodities market, IMO. It's too much of a destabilizing force. Let the stocks of oil companies be traded until everyone is blue in the face. But leave oil out of it.

Actually, it's cheap in the U.S. compared with most countries.

There's a lot of potential for developing fuel from grain and waste products. These alternative fuels, bio-diesel, and hybrid cars are going to be the trend for the next few decades.

They're a drop in the bucket compared with what the U.S. is spending on Iraq.

It has everything to do with it. It's part of the budget and it's the biggest welfare program the U.S. has ever implemented.

Well, I agree with you on that one. I would have loved to see all that money put in alternative energy programs. Then one day we wouldn't even have to be obsessed with oil countries such as Iraq.

SS is another issue. The welfare program in itself only uses about 1% of the federal budget and the biggest recipient group is children. SS is huge, as is Medicare, Medicaid, and the military. Medicaid is actually more of a problem right now than SS but somehow no one in DC wants to talk about it.

My heart goes out to the people of Iraq, but we can't keep them on welfare forever. We have our own problems to deal with too.

Let's invade Nevada. And when we're done draining the oil, we can fill up the hole with nuclear waste.

The right wingers don't have to worry. ANWR drilling is back on again. It still has to get past the Senate, though. And it probably will since it's attached to a military spending bill and money to rebuild the South. (The Southern U.S., not southern Iraq) :)

ANWR will go back to the House, I think, even though it didn't go through the Senate. The battle continues. :)
