I highly doubt smoking weed actually decreases your chances of getting cancer in any sort of significant way

Cancer is genetic, if your gonna get it, your gonna get it.

your lifestyle will just hold off, or speed up when you do

It may not be significant, but it has been proven to help destroy cancer cells, which means it will definitely do more good than bad, regardless of how insignificant it may be. Either way, it's nice to know that we are not slowly killing ourselves by doing what we love to do.

Your genes can determine whether you are more prone to getting cancer or not.

I've read a few journal articles on the subject. The one whose results are closest to what you're saying, Rob1134, compared a group who had been heavy smoker for the past 20+ years on a daily basis to another group who had not touched any drugs. The smoking group was, of course, poorer in short term-memory. But then they tested them again after a few months (I forget how many) and the smoker group did show improvements although they never quite reached the levels of the control group. Interestingly, the study said that because of small sample size, they could not present their results as "statistically significant", and they said that if the sample size had been larger or the study was allowed to continue for a few extra months, they might have been able to assert that the short-term memory deficits were definitely not permanent. I take this to mean the results were inconclusive but promising.

a study shows that if we lived long enough, we would all eventually die of cancer... in other words, if we didn't die due to other causes, we would all develop cancer at one point or another.

Yes grasshopper, where here for you...

Acctaully, the sad truth is your chances of getting cancer are much lower now that you smoke weed... its been known for many years that thc kills cancer cell. Science has proven this a long time ago, but, there are many people who don't want anyone to know this... Imagine if a harmless plant could cure cancer.. what would happen to i.e. the poor pharmacuitical companies. For those reasons, you've been fed a lot of bullshit and propoganda your whole life... Weed is natural, and will not hurt you. Alcholol and tobaco may kill you, but weed might acctually make things better for your mental and physical health. I'm glad your doing reasearch on this, and it wont take you long to discover the truth... Sad thing is, its not the police trying to keep it away from people, its not the government, its corporate pressue.. the propoganda is about money... just do your homework, and I think you'll end up being quite happy with things.

All right. If this thing about weed helping with cancer is correct, as you all say (and I'm not doubting you), maybe we should take this moment to switch the topic of this thread.

New topic: post as many links to certified articles that support this claim as you can - any that you so happen to come by, or know of, or just have a vague recollection of but think you can scope it out after some searching. I'd really like to read them.

I am not gonna look for the articles. If you want to read one, search the CNN website for their article on the subject. Sorry, but I am lazy when I am without weed, so I can't help you right now.

Man, maybe you shouldn't smoke if you worry about the health effects so much.

I've got another question for all the pot gurus out there. Once in a while, I get pot with a few of those white seeds. Do the seeds contain any THC in them? I ask because a couple times when I smoked weed with these seeds in it, I got sooooo baked. Are they highly concentrated in THC?
