Waldorf salad is a mainstay in our house during the summer! So is carrot-raisin salad.

Does anyone know of a substitute for the mayonnaise though? I've been using strawberry soy yogurt (in the waldorf... haven't made carrot in about a year) and it's not bad, but it's not the same either.
    love,
    mom

    yeah, salad = mmmmmmmmm

I have to be a dissenter to most of the above though and say that while iceburg isn't my favouritist lettuce ever, it's not that bad. It can be made yum with lots of other tasty ingredients....I even like it cut in massive wedges with lemon juice and maybe a form of mayo drizzled over.

We also put lightly steamed broccolli/broccollini in salads, artichoke hearts, grilled eggplant, capsicum (especially roasted...mmmm) - basically anything. I love these type of salads made with edible flowers and fresh herbs

I like a 'garden' salad like that with this dressing I make from fresh raspberries, fresh basil, olive oil, raspberry vinegar, and a splash of honey (or vegan substitute).

but different salads are great too - kumera with black bean sauce and sprouts; chickpeas with lemon juice, hummus and parsley, orzo with feta and rosemary roast vegetables...

salad, so good...especially in summer...god I can't wait for summer to come again

moonbeam, is that your lovely curls in your sig?
if so , take your advice. Wonderful!
    and to teh topic,
in the states, salad is thought of as that weird white lettuce and tomato stuff. Other countries get that its a cold (or warm) dish of vegetables with many more options.

In NZ, does caspiums mean bell peppers (sweet)?

    haha, thanks drumminmama.
yeah hair is good - last time I cut it/trimmed it was eight years ago.

and yes bell pepper = capsicum.
Pepper is the spicy stuff that you grind on your dishes for extra yum.

    good times :)

so what are hot peppers/ chiles? (the stuff with real flavor?)
so pepper is peppercorns? (black ground pepper)

I last cut my hair in 97, except to repair an incident with a candle...
