quite true, it works! i got a dog that loves all animals EXCEPT birds! seeing her hunt birds you, would swear she is a cat in dogs' clothing! anyhoo, that bell shit don't work for long with cats or dogs. it works just great with cows and sheep but, cats or dogs? they are too smart to fall for that shit for long. now, as for traumatizing the cat with birds; that just might work. sahsa (my bird killing dog) is now scared shitless of birds. i live in a simi woodland area. there is a pond with ducks around it. one day i had sahsa walking in the woodland and, off she tore. i had not notice but, sahsa sure did, a duck away from the pond. i stood there in dispair fearing a bloodbath for that poor drake! well, that change quite quickly... i feared a bloodbath for poor sahsa instead! sahsa was right on top of the drake ready to bite his head off... POOF! the drake bit sahsa open mouth and would not let go! in a way, the rest of the battle was quite funny! sahsa ran around dragging that drake under her, tripping over him, shaking her head and clawing at him trying, to force him off... NO WAY WAS GOING TO LET SAHSA GET AWAY! that was one bad motherfucker of a duck! finally, sahsa was able to shake him off of her. she ran past me wimpering and yelpping when i got home, she was saking and begging for me to let her in the house. she ran off and hid in the closet. she did not come out of there until the next day. my "poor" baby got a case of ptsd from that asskicking from that "killer" duck. she no longer bothers birds at all anymore. she is still scared shitless of large birds like, the size of chickens. my suggestion is get a couple of large birds like, chickens or ducks and, let them kick your cat's kittie ass. hey, if it works with dogs why not try it on cats too!:biggrinjester:
I was going to post this pic I took last week but figured it would upset animal lovers here, but this thread assures me that it will likely go unnoticed. My neighbor has a cat that is very friendly and confident when I see it on the walkway. They had this doormat with the humorous "Beware of Cat" on it. I know this cat is a typical hunter and have seen half lizards on the mat in passing (I hear it is a gift to the owner) Well, last week This is what I saw on the mat: Cats by nature hunt, kill and consume smaller animals. It would be cruel to try to punish that out of them (and probably impossible). You just have to accept that it is what they do. If you don't like what a predatory hunter does, then get a rodent for a pet. They are basically vegetarians.
slip it an E instead you'll go out onto your patio and witness your cat getting off with two pigeons.
Those who suggest a traumatic experience to turn animals off to birds are right. I've found that a mildly traumatic experience is necessary for young animals to learn what is ok and what isn't. That's how nature works. In the wild a cat will learn these lessons. My cat is afraid of big birds like crows, they make him go crazy. But he's an indoor cat and we never let him out. Why? Cause eventually he would die outside. Outdoor cats (at least around here) only live a couple of years before they succumb to something deadly. There are too many things that want to eat cats around here (Coyotes, Mountain lions, rattlesnakes). In addition going outdoors it means getting ticks and fleas and very dirty. It may seem cruel to keep a cat indoors, but if you never let them out, they don't know what they're missing. But you must substitute play time for outdoor time and make sure they get lots of exercise and to chase and hunt indoors. And always provide a cat with a good window where they can view the world. I call it Cat TV since they can sit and watch for hours!
stray children are cruel dogs are cruel other cats are cruel fleas and ticks and worms are cruel cars and trucks and motorcycles are cruel the weather is cruel, one of my guys lost his ears and tail to frostbite indoor cats are safe, warm and happy :2thumbsup:
Either get over the fact that your cat is a predator or keep it inside. I read that you think that is unacceptable or that your cat can't adjust or something. You'd be surprised. We've brought a feral cat in, male no less who had been on the streets for close to 5 years and though the dude only lets my husband gets nears him, he has integrated in well with the household rules and other cats and does not appear to want to go back outdoors. If not this, then the bell option combined with eliminating the opportunity for prime-time hunting. Prime-time hunting is the hour before and hour before both sunset and sunrise. So, if the sun rises at 6 a.m. and sets at 5 p.m. you must (at a minimum) always ensure that kitty is indoors between 5-7 a.m. and 4-6 p.m. Preferably more 5-11 a.m. and 4-8 p.m. to be even more realistic. Good luck!
Yeah, that's why I dont let my cat out in this town. Well.. he ecsaped for 3 weeks and managed just fine, but it would be a matter of time. dozens of stray cats here, more other peoples outdoor cats, lit of dogs in yards, and I don't trust these hick as country boys not to shoot it or hit it in their pickup. And what do you mean forced trama? You mean artifically setting up a tramatic ordeal for you cat to go through to condition him against X behavior? Cause I'm really not one of these animal rights nuts, but I still think that sounds pretty mean. Kinda... machiavellian.. almost.
And I put a bell on my last cat (world class hunter, we're talking full grown rabbits and squirrels, any kinda bird) and it didn't help those animals one damn bit hahaha
Kill your cat. :2thumbsup: Nah just kidding. Don't do that. Bad idea. Give your cat a stern talking-to.
:smilielol5: you don't know shit about cats. you never lived with one. you CAN'T train cats! cats train the people who live with them!
yeah... a couple of my cats convinced me that they were too aggravated by the flea collers to bother with them, so I had to get them a squirt btw/ the sholders (expensive) flea med. shit Also, well-fed cats will kill birds just b/c they can. I love my cats...and they are very bad sometimes.:banghead: :cuss:
Cats are the quintessential land predators. They kill things. No cat ever really forgets that it is descended from the Sabertooth. And once they kill the first thing, no food or toy is ever good enough again. Although if it brings you the dead animal, you know that it loves you, cares about your well-being, and thinks you're too skinny. My unnatural twig of a sister kept waking up to dead mice in her bed, courtesy of Pumbaa the Cat. Horrified her, cracked me up.
