Not at the moment, but when I was 20 or so I spent near enough a year without working, and it was great. It sucked in some ways, but it took a long time before I wanted a job.

Last year I was freelancing, and that was pretty shit, too. Had a fair bit of time off but never knew when I'd have work or how much I would earn, was quite stressful.

And this is the big disadvantage of my current job. I work every day, from 10 to 16 hours a day. It's a great job but it gives me no time to myself.

I don't understand how people are unable to find jobs, though. I've never had this problem; there's always jobs around, and if there are none in your area, there are some in another part of the world.

Would you be prepared to work less if you could survive? To give other people the chance to earn a living, share the work around so everyone has enough free time and material things to enrich and sustain their lives.

I reckon >50% of the work that is done in today's world is unnecessary or the result of inefficient work patterns and should be eradicated.

    For example, paper work.

The number of jobs I've had, yard monkey jobs where you don't need to think very hard about it, you just follow orders and I've gone in and done the job in half the time, often while stoned as well! You either get sent home early or the boss just finds you something else to do, like cleaning the bins or something... The reason this is happening is because people turn up to work NOT to work but to earn money.

With all these fucking health and safety laws and your boss telling you how to stack a pile of boxes etc... people have become lazy and apathetic. Rather than getting the job done as quickly and efficiently as possible they take their time so as not to get sent home early and lose money or end up with some other shitty job to do. And this is why we have ended up in a situation where we all have to work long hours, when in reality it is usually only necessary to work half the time to get the job done!

Does that make sense, I'm not sure if I explained it as it sounded in my head...

Basically we all have to work long hours because most people are stupid and lazy, or greedy.

I've been unemployed since I moved to Arizona in June except for 2 weeks in a telemarketing office that I got fired from for not making my sales quota.

I've been applying for every crap job I can get to (no car) including supermarkets and fast food. A couple interviews, but no job.

    It sucks, I'm broke.

"...and if there are none in your area, there are some in another part of the world." Not only is this pompous; but, it is stupid. If a person is not working, (and not independently wealthy, which does NOT count - in this thread...sorry, IB) they are most probably TOO BROKE to even consider moving to another part of the world. good lord!
I cannot speak for everywhere; but around here in the southern USA, it is about a million times easier for a man (especially a man in his 20's) to get a job than a woman (especially a woman in her 50's).
I'm not working; but getting a littlebitty UI check...and I despise being broke and looking for work. I've looked numerous places and they all but spit on my application and throw it in the trash in front of me!
BTW - I have discovered that if I actually want to work where ever I'm applying, I do NOT put down more than a high school education...at least I stand a chance for them to call me back.
100% of the time, if I ever have put down all my education - I am NEVER called back. lol - hey, I do think that is funny...I gotta get my laughs where I can.

I agreed to work a bit later in the night than I'd like to just for a job. I kind of need the money.

I once had an accident at work and broke my hand (nearly lost a finger) as a result of the combination of the company putting too much pressure on my to get results AND lax health and safety protocol/other members of staff not doing their job properly, such as ie. not fixing the wheels on a large garbage disposal container.

Im kind of the same..except for the wealthy part

I want a better place ..a quieter place ..but I always just do enough work to just get by ..some of my friends don't understand that but screw them if they want to work 10 hours a day and then come home to feed their kids and go to sleep and repeat that everyday..I see no fun in that at all...

As far as a "Normal" full time job with steady hours and a regular paycheck I've been unemployed since November of 07'. Been a long and spotty string of short run gigs on craigslist or room & board gigs (While looking for a Normal full time job of course)

So far the biggest obstacle to my getting this job has been logistics. I'm either living far from where they are or they want me for a shift which pretty much rules out using public transportation to get there.

Not having a car these days sucks ass,,,

What makes matters worse where I am now, the local labor ready doesn't do day labor pools anymore, they've shifted to being more of a staffing agency so i cant even go and just put a few days in to have some pocket cash, and CL gig's are far flung all over the darn place or simply the usual CL nonsense. :(

On the bright side, I have an interview on Tuesday (Only had 1 other interview since May and that went nowhere) for a 5 month contract which may turn into a full time position. Best part about it being I get a company vehicle to use. :cheers2:

I don't mean to sound pompous, but if you are a native English speaker, you can go teach it in other parts of the world, regardless of your education (although it helps to have a degree) and some companies will even pay for your flight.. If you do some research on the Internet I'm sure you'd find plenty of options.

I understand that's not for everyone, but it is a job. And there are other examples, of course you'd usually have to pay for your own flight, and be willing to work hard, but I know quite a few people who found work here in south east Asia and are doing very well for themselves..
