Sales are either up or holding steady to last year in my entire district even though we are missing entire catagories of items that we usually have in plenty this time of year. Donations are way down and the quality of what we are getting is down too. This tells me people are holding on to stuff longer before the give it away. People are passing up fancy things in favor of utilitarian items. More of our "Special tag" merchandise is selling, people are hunting for the discounts even with used items.

We are getting more clearance leftovers from "Bullz-eye" because they are not/cannot sell it and have to take the hit to get the tax break. It doesn't last a second on our shelves. Word is getting around that these things can be gotten for less than half the original price if folks wait around for it to come to us.

While this may not seem to have much bearing on NEW retail in the long run it does. We are making the dollars that would otherwise be spent in the malls, we don't pay the same tax as a for profit organization, and we are worldwise...go figure.
