Just as a historical side note; the original "Hippies" were not in it for sex and drugs, although they didn’t see anything wrong with either. Those who came later were the ones obsessed with sex and drugs and brought violence and exploitation with them.

Old Brother, you confuse the Beatniks with the Hippies. However, sex was part of both. Hippiedom was a way of life including a mobile fornicatorium bus painted psychedelic colors. Now there were hustlers in the movement out to satisfy their libidos, but as you say it was not the main objective. Love, dope, freedom, innocence, hope, fatigue, peace, life, etc., etc., were the motive forces. This current crop are a bunch of yuppies with self-centered ideas interested in protecting their arses from the man. They might dress like us, but they aint like us. Indeed. The yippes the weathermen and others gave hippies a bad name. Hippies were not into anything but what came our way. yes sex and drugs were there. But thats not what it was all about. Not at all. It was a movement to get people off there ass and stand up. Violence was contrived by the instigators.
