I'm pleased that I will only be buying two gifts.....for my niece and nephew. The commercialization of this holiday annoys me.
Fair enough. I'm only buying for my two nephews. You can make it as commercialised or none commercialised as you like. 'I bought gifts, just not for Christmas..I always make that distinction when I give them out.' - see (and be as smug about that as you like) P.S: It's funny that the fourth monkey is covering his genitals and the other three have a leaf covering their genitals that looks like their genitals. Especially the third one. Is that intentional?
I hate doing it, too. But for those picky people who don't like anything you ever give them, what are you supposed to do? It's a benefit on both sides if they can go get something they will like on my dollar instead of me wasting my money.
My niece loves shopping so I usually get her a gift card or just some cash, but on the condition that she has to wait to use it till I can take her shopping. I hate shopping but it's fun to see her so happy. Um....sure
I have 15 nieces and nephews that come to my house Christmas eve. I buy for all of them. It's fuckin bullshit. This is the last year I'm doing it. I get to drop that bomb on them this year.
When I was 15 I stopped getting regular presents from aunts and uncles. No one blames you really, it's just a drag to get less stuff if you're a teen and you don't really know the value of money. Maybe buy an assortment of crappy toys from Oriental Trading as a gesture? Better than nothing.
There is a new adoption in our family. It's weird and really hard to explain but it brings 5 more kids into the mix so now all the kids can exchange names. In years past there were too many kids in one family and not enough other kids to balance it out to draw names. That's what I'm suggesting for next year. Since I don't have any kids that lets me off the hook completely. I have a hard time having kids come to my house and not giving them a gift to open. Not that I do a lot for them and the kids over the age of 10 just get cash anyway. I know its not all about the gifts but how horrible would it be to go to a Christmas when you are 6 years old and not even have 1 thing to open?
Well that's an idea. Yeah, I thought they might all be older. I wouldn't go a Christmas not giving my nephew a gift if I had money. He's only 4 and I don't live at home anymore so the gift is all he's getting of me for a while. So I understand.
Those are just the ones that come over Christmas eve. Actually with all of my nieces and nephews they range from 6 months-34 years old. I have "biological" family and "legal" family. There are a lot of strange adoptions in my family. Nobody cares enough to hear the story but just know my family is kinda weird.
well ive officially let christmas stress me out, but i finished my shopping and i took my baby to see santa and got a fantastic picture of him crying his little eyes out on santa's lap. now i can rest easy for the rest of the holidays
My kids both have mental breakdowns every time we are even in the vicinity of a Santa. I haven't bothered to try for pics lol.
