Modes Modes Modes...ughhhhh. I read through a theory book a few times and I was just lost. Someone told me if I would learn my circle of fiths I could nail this. Dunno. I probably know more than I think I do...just cant name it , know what I mean. But guess that is the beauty of bass over guitar....I can make my mistakes seem intentional. Or so I convince myself!!!
I read a book about playing guitar in the way of Zen called Zen Guitar...go figure. They said any real master of improvisation or a master of zen guitar will take a mistake use it to change the direction of the music. We learn most from playing mistakes but even more when make those mistakes into a purpose. Playing an instrument is like a painter and their canvas. Their are an infinite number of possibilities, tones, and colors. And a good musician embraces all of these variation and uses them to paint their picture. I totally know what you mean though. There are many different modes, only a few a common in modern western music. Modal playing for me is really about reference. If I am playing a mode, it limits me too much on the notes I can play but gets me exactly to the melody of the particular chord that is being played. I would much rather look at the entire neck and know ever note that is in the particular key I am playing, then figure out the melody from there. I think a lot of classically trained people lack personality in the their playing...like too much theory and knowledge has shaped their musical tone too much. just something I have noticed over the years.
Iiiiiii playyy... Flute Oboe (ish) I taught myself guitar/bass Piano Guitar hero ;D <3 Ohh and I sing too I tinks thats it ^^
You know what I don't get...hopefully this doesn't offend anyway cause that not my intention. But I don't understand the massive popularity behind guitar hero and rock band especially if you play an instrument already. I mean the game isn't even that fun. I refuse to play it because every second that is spend massing a buttons on the controller could be spent learning the instrument. I feel way too guilty. Not only that, but entirely dissatisfied too. I dunno, I heard it mentioned a couple times in a music threads and guitar hero or rock band was mentioned. It just seems like it's all rage at least in the US.
ME TOO! This is hard and even harder while playing the bass. With the guitar you are using harmonizing or working a melody with what you playing but bass is entirely different. A bassist and a drummer have similar struggles while playing and singing. Not only are singing in between the beat, you aren't harmonizing with your instrument either. Singing and playing is definitely hard to master unless your just a natural. Natural singers are the one group people I am truly envious of. They do nothing to learn their instrument and sound amazing the entire time...I work everyday to improve my singing and it just doesn't seem to work. one day...
I think guitar hero is great. Especially for people, who one way or another can't learn the guitar. I do think it is a tad boring after you've played each song once.
That's my point...it doesn't teach you only giving your the illusion of satisfaction of playing the guitar for some and other just something fun to do. I mean nothing wrong i with it, but people spend hours and hours playing that shit. If they just pick up any instrument and withing the amount of time playing that game they would be well on their way to learning music. I blows me away of all the YouTube posts of playing guitar hero on expert and like yeah 100%....woo hoo, rock on! Right.... It's fucking stupid...like that's something to seriously be proud of. What about the guy that record the track?
LMAO! Good point. Nah, I think it's good as a novelty thing, we bought guitar hero II and III we loved it but you can only play heart shaped box a handful of times before it gets tedious. I can't play it anyway. Five minutes into the game it causes my eyes to fuck up and I feel sick. I have to see these people play expert. Do they get really into it? HA!
LMAO - I only looked this up because I like the song...You'll know why you listen to it! But it is ridiculous. I can play both of these song on guitar but couldn't dream of doing in rock band...it would drive me nuts, it just doesn't add up. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0msGlNhKHM8 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ebw84LI2Tm0 The second video he continually fucks up...Jerry always fuckin nails it. He can't even do it with 5 big ass buttons.
I can't play guitar very well because my fingers can't move fast enough That's why I love guitar hero, you can play along with your awesomely fave songs xD i.e slipknot and disturbed and its also how I found kill switch engage Like all games there are different levels and as you improve you get harder songs, which are really awesome to play I guess its a simpler way to be able to play along with songs with a similar sort of way instead of an actual guitar ^^ I have a friend who is expert at both guitar aNd the game xD
ha ha i know what you mean, my housemate is a drummer and is insanely good at guitar hero.... the nearest equivalent to playing guitar hero in the real world is a 5 fret single stringed guitar.... I play guitar in real life and did go through a big phase of playing it, as well as rock band, but now i just do the vocals on it and the drums , altho the shitty kit you get with it is broken at the moment, i've got fed up with the guitar, it gives me hand ache lol.... im no drummer but aarent the drums pretty real on rock band and gt world tour?
Yea I think do think they are pretty real, and I would try the drums but however I am shite with drums xD I like the vocals only a few good songs though
As someone who cannot play the guitar at all... I like Guitar Hero, but to me it doesn't have anything to do with the instrument, it's just fun keeping up with pressing buttons to fun music...it doesn't go any deeper than that for me; I'm not under any illusion that I'm actually playing guitar, lol
