i know an asian dealer. i was surprised, too. i'm not particularly racist, but when an asian is driving like a 'tard, i have to bite my tongue. i know there's been a lot of dispute over this over the decades, but i agree with the idea that people of certain races are different but NOT necessarily inferior. we are still at an early stage of evolution as far as the human race is concerned...
Well KC said race relations are weird in her country. I just thought this such a bizarre thing to say. My senior high school was only 30% white, the kind of ideas that people had about who should hang out with who and what one should say or do according to what race they belonged to were utterly bizarre. And Zilla, I know exactly what you mean. If a driver ever cuts me off or drives ridiculously slow and I see they are Asian I am less inclined to get angry because its almost as if they can't help it.
did i act like i gave a flip flying fuck about and wanted to comment on race relations in your corner of the world? nope.
Don't act dumb. The fact that you used the words "in this country" convey something perfectly simple. I wasn't attacking you, just letting you know that race relations are weird everywhere.
Well I mean there are differences between groups of people. That includes race. But I think most of us would agree that it's pretty stupid to let little things divide us when there are so many things that bring us together as people. One love Z.
having not been there, i can't comment on it, now can i? so don't be disingenuous. you know exactly how it sounded.
hmm. black people drive FAR more dangerously than asians around here. but then old people drive even worse, regardless of race.
shut up hippie. WHITE POWER! no really. yes, exactly; it has much more to do with geography than skin color.
I think a lot of things influenced how I saw people that had a different ethnicity than my own. I think the first thing is that I spent 3-4 years of my life living in a hotel that was constantly filled with people that looked different than me, dressed different and talked in a different language, to me it was nothing but interesting. The other things is that in DR there's no such thing as a white, black, whatever neighborhood. And you grow seeing everyone the same, it doesnt matter if their skin is lighter or darker than you, at least in my family. Although I do believe that there's a lot of racism in DR, but it's mostly related with to what social class the person belongs. But a loooot of people see being black as being ugly, or inferior and the most ironic part of it, is that the person can be black themselves or just a few shades away. It's ridiculous. People back home have so many words to get around describing themselves as black, because they dont seem to accept it or see it as a bad thing. I remember in school I would sometimes describe my skin as being black (specially since I looked way darker because of all the time spent under the sun) and my friends were like "nooo, you're not black! You are like bronze (since when is that a skin color?), or tanned or indian (used as a color in Spanish, not the nationality) or cinnamon and the list went on. It was quite funny.
No. Like when people riff racist tones they are almost melodic with their BS so I fight their tones when ever I hear them. I might be the only person to fight their racist tones, but I do my best to fight them anyway.
