You're right. I assumed you supported Obama, and I really have no idea if you do or do not. I'm not on an ego trip, I am just trying to open an in depth discussion and, I had no intent to sound like I was attacking you. I'm sincerely sorry.
I got a phone call from Mitt Romney today...telling me to vote for him because of blah blah blah. I felt special. It was a recording obviously. I pressed 9 to be removed from the call list. Fuckin government sucking up my minutes...those bastards
I get calls like that all the time from the Shiloh Baptist Church. Don't know how they got my number, but I can't seem to remove myself from their list. This has nothing to do with this thread. Sorry.
All politicians need to be able to appear to empathize with people (or, at the very least, their base). Otherwise, who would vote for them? I am not won over by Obama's attempts to empathize with me, but then again I am not black. It's just too bad people are still focused on race, as if that shit means anything.
ALL POLITICIANS AND MAJOR POLITICAL PARTIES SERVE THE RICH AND BIG BUSINESS!!!! That is what politicians do! Do you honestly believe liberal/Democrat politicians don't operate according to corporate interests? Here in America, and every other country just about, the corporations own all sides. This belief that one side represents the poor and working class, and that the other represents big business, is a fallacy. They both represent corporate interests, it's just the one side tries harder to emphasize the fact that they don't and that they care more about you. But who cares, because that is just empty rhetoric. Government never has helped people, besides. Government only strives to keep people dependent and at the bottom where they can be controlled and dictated to.
They both do represent our corporate masters and banks, and it is somewhat of a charade. But beyond that their are many real policy issues. which they differ upon. Obama did increase pell grants with the democratic agenda in 09, The GOP platform is for cutting pell grants. I believe that is one example of dozens of actual policy differences I could list. Government built our highways, created national parks, ended segregation in schools, and landed a person on the moon, which created a generation of scientific advancements. The Internet. It's not so black and white I think.
OK, so, since we're all crying and whining and screaming about the government, what do you all suggest we do about it?
Oh, he definitely blames women for being raped and probably for everything else in the known universe as well. I am seriously frightened for the future.
I definitely agree with this, but I will admit that I think that Democrats don't hate the environment and women quite as much as Republicans do.
Well, the Democrats simply use people's concerns about the environment to pass laws that give the government more power vs. actually helping the environment. A lot of the environmental laws simply cause industry to move abroad to places like China where they continue to pollute the environment. I don't really trust the government to protect the environment, though they are sure good at exploiting it for their own means.
Emm.... all you're doing here, is basically agreeing with the post of mine you quoted. The government doesn't care about the ordinary person on the street. They will pay us lip service, but that's about it. They tell people what they want to hear in order to get their votes, but as soon as they are in power, they break all, or most of the promises made to the ordinary voter. This has been happening for so long now, it amazes me that people still haven't woken up by now. If you're not rich, and/or involved in big business, then the government don't really care about what you want or need, no matter what they say to the contrary... Yep, this is precisely what I meant before by "the lesser of two evils". All major parties represent corporate masters and banks, whilst masquerading as being "for the people". But there are policy differences between the parties, and that's where choosing which party/candidate to vote for isn't so much as voting for the party who most cares about the needs of the general public and the most vulnerable in society, as much as which will do the least amount of damage to a fair and just society. Which is why if I was American, I would vote for Obama. Being in a marginalised minority group, and female, I would definitely be worse off under a republican administration than a democrat one. At least right now. I also don't like how republicans continuously try and mix church with state, when they should be seperate. On the face of it, all politicians who are in a position of power, are the same. But skim the surface, and there are sometimes, subtle differences between them.
1) Shortly after taking office he quickly understood the need to have at least a few lobbyists hanging around the white house to forward his agenda. 2) The tremendous difficulty and logistics involved in closing Guantanamo Bay only came to light only after he was briefed by the National security counsel 3) He hasn’t declared war on Iran – Yet 4) It was the right call politically, morally and ethically Hotwater
Gotta love that cynical realism. Here in Canada, at least its considered common knowlege that we're fucked either way. A lot of Americans still seem to maintain the delusion that they get something different, but, even after that emotional hollywood electon campaign, what Obama has done is just more of the same. Then again, I got a Book of Mormon, from the guys on the metro (or subway) and I read it and that shit is CRACKED OUT! They're probably more harmless than other major American cults like scientology, but fuck they're insane. Just that fact about Romney alone, along with the Republican national convention speech do scare the shit out of me. Back in the day (before Harper, that is) Canada had some semi-legitimate politics. Here is our former priministers reason cited for not going to war in Iraq (the "proof" thing is regarding the existence of nuclear weapons): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aX6XMIldkRU"](former) prime minister jean chretien explains... - YouTube no proof :sombrero: he also "grbs protestors by the neck" but its not regarded as anti-freedom. it's regarded as lulzy as titis https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvjfJ6bAi0U"]Canada Prime Minister Jean Chrétien grabs Clennett's throat - YouTube
So he just made a promise to millions without having talked to these guys to even have any idea if what he said was possible. Awh oops, apparently its easier said than done, gais. My bad
Increased gas economies in cars does not promote buying foreign vehicles. Stricter mining and electric production will not happen overseas. That's conservative propaganda which has little basis in fact, and has entire studies and think tanks funded by energy execs. Better environmental practices do often have higher overhead costs, they're also more sustainable. A major overseas issue are sham recycling operations. These are not problems caused by over-regulation, they're promoted by dirt cheap labor.
