even look in urban dictionary. there are a number of entries under asian that includes indians. people of asian descent all over the US usually accept each other as asian to an extent. similar cultural/family values, educational success, job success, stereotypes associated, etc.

what confused me is how non-asians would take much concern in this (which is how mama came across...but she said she didn't mean to, so it's fine)? there must be a reason, maybe a bad past experience? no hate whatsoever.

desi (pronounced they-see)is usually used amongst those who are south asian and those really into the culture (there are always the token white peeps on the bhangra dance teams).

south asian is used throughout.

i've grown up in the suburbs over 96% white, statistic based. i guess curiosity got to me.

Hm, neither do I. I guess I have no excuse then, same deal here! There's mostly gujuratis round here and I'm punjabi so.. yeah. They're not keen. I have one asian friend but she's depressed 90% of the time.
