I personally think Shpongel & Aphex Twin are the best. I love old stuff too like Kraftwerk. There is so much decent music.. in my top list Chemical Brothers is no where near.

They are great and all.. but I just don't find them that original.

 

who was doing big beat before Chemical Brothers? Prodigy came out prior but their first couple albums is much different than 'Fat of the Land' which was more big beat sounding. i guess there was some hints of it on 'Jilted Generation...'

I mean I agree, they aren't my favorite electronic band. But Shpongle is more of a Pink Floyd of electronic music and Aphex twin is really kind of a separate thing. I just think The Chemical Brothers have a certain musical sensibility that is rarely matched in Electronic music much like The Beatles did for rock. It's catchy and accessible but it's not overly fluffy like alot of trance, house and electro can be.

 

I love the prodigy too. I just put Prodigy and CB in a different category. It's totally different music compared to Shpongel.

I just find Shpongel so intelligently put together and there is always so much going on yet it still sounds perfect. Same with Aphex.

Chemical brothers.. prodigy.. fat boy slim.. orbital..

All good stuff but all have nothing that really stands out. Nothing they really do that different than one another. Funky bass.. a very danceable beat.. some quirky repetitive sounds. Bit boring after a while. Great when you are in a club and high on E.

I like my electronic music to sound mathmatical.. if that makes sense. I like it to be full of detail. I want it to be so detailed and deep that everytime I hear it I hear something new! I want to be amazed everytime I hear it at how it exists! I want it to be thought provoking.. I want it to make my insides dance a little.



I sound a bit much. But thats how I feel. haha

 

yah but there are bands that sound like Shpongle as well.

Shulman is ok but it isn't like Shpongel. Plus that tune has a sample from some chick who I have heard plenty of.

I just find shpongel to be in their own league. Maybe it's because of all the happy moments I have had listening to them whilst on shrooms/acid.

I just find it so much to take in. Shulman aint got shit on shpongel!

I am agreeing with you that Shpongle is the best but it's certainly not the only type of it's genre, just how The chemical Brothers are the best at big beat but not the only type of their genre.

I wasn't even trying to compare Chemical Brothers to Shpongle. Like I said I prefer Shpongle's music I just think Chemical Brothers music speaks to a wider audience because it's not as lengthy and psychedelic as Shpongle. Also seeing both of them live I do think The Chemical Brothers are far superior at the art of djing and live mixing than Simon is, at least what I saw him do. I do think Simon is way better at production though and Shpongle is my personal favorite electronic act ever.

It's just what you like really isn't it. There is someone out there who thinks Backstreet Boys are the best band in the world.

Chemical Brothers do a great big beat.. and Bass test is always useful for showing off a new amp.

Trance stuff I have loads of.

I personally like a bit of D&B for dance! And there is plenty of that that sounds the same! grimey jungle over the top ragga d&b. Love it.

 

Sure there is a certain level of subjectivity but can you honestly take someone who thinks the Backstreet Boys are the best band in the world tastes in music seriously?

I own dancing galaxy on CD I like their music so much I actually bought it rather than DLing it
