I just noticed this one. Refranation is when a faster planet tries to aspect a slower planet, but the faster planet goes retrograde. Since the Moon and Sun never go retrograde, how can it be a refranation of a sextile? If it WAS refranation, then whatever the election is supposed to represent wouldn't take place. Thus it's a bad election. Not variable - bad.
Thank you for your input but you are mistaken. A refranation sextile refers to the Moon's final aspect disregarding the refranation. This is advanced electional astrology. Let me explain - all refranations carry the meaning that something is dropped. This can be a good thing or a bad thing and that is determined by the supporting aspect. The supporting aspect is the Moon's final aspect disregarding the refranating planet. A supporting aspect shows if an advantage will be gained or not by the fact that something or someone has had a change of heart.

William Lilly Christian Astrology 1647 Chapter 19 "There's another manner of prohibition; by some properly called refrenation; as thus, Saturn in 12 degrees of Aries, Mars in 7 degrees, here Mars hastens to a conjunction of Saturn, but before he comes to the 10th or 11th degree of Aries he becomes retrograde, and by that means refrains to come to a conjunction of Saturn, who still moves forward in the sign; nothing signified by the former conjunction will ever be effected." By the way it's condescending to say "this is advanced electional astrology" to me when you really don't know who I am or my level in study.
We can agree to disagree. A refranation does not necessarily mean that something will fail. It means that the person or thing represented by the refraining planet has had a change of heart. What one does under those circumstances determines the outcome. This is "free will". Many of the more contemporary astrologers have written on this topic. But more importantly in my own experience working with electional astrology I have found that a refranation is not necessarily detrimental to the outcome of the matter. However the oucome may be different than expected.
