I didn't say it does. It doesn't have to because it was there the whole time. The idea of other people's consciousness being "theirs" and your consciousness as being "yours" is only a product of your identifying yourself with a single body.

Why is consciousness for itself at the very least? For the very same reason you question me and I you. We don't know anything outside of it. We're all for ourselves, and by virtue of that, eachother.
Have not even looked at arguements . I'm here to say Groovecookie is one hell of a cool name.. Roo phenomena da da da-dada phenomena da-dada da. wait till your 50 + then you see the joke [or am i slow... yep that sounds right]
I get this. I am not entirely in support of this. But I am willing to give this a little extra thought. I appreciate you bringing this to my attention. Its worth our time.
You wag.. Exactly the type i like sitting around lounge room smoking and gabbing with. Welcome to occams house of 'the simple answer is most often the right answer'
Technically speaking if you are an atheist that means that you believe that nothing happens when you die. If something else happened, like heaven or hell, then you would be Christian I guess. But I understand and respect your concept.
Most people who say Atheism are actually talking about Naturalism, and that's exactly what your doing I think. Ideas about the afterlife are not representative of Atheism because the only thing Atheism represents is the rejection of the god idea.
The only hell there is is the concept of eternal life.. . To never 'BE ABLE' to end. EVER. Is the most horrific thing i can imagine. occam
Any causal relationship between body and mind sounds religious to me. It implies they are different entities. I did not read the whole thread, however. And why would I?? :leaving:
i dont know. if you say it just goes to someone else then it wouldnt be someone else because you would be being reincarnated. if you dont say that, then it just gets released. unless the whole time all you are is consciosness and then when you die you are left with only what you really are.
but what if theres not just a universal consciousness. what if there are individual ones? what if everyone is their own consciousness?
I think that would depend on the kind of life. In what sense do you mean? Cherea: lol To see Cherea, to see! If everything is mutually exclusive, And I cannot see how it isn't, then causality should present us only with options. Well, I guess I mean ' it could'.
GOOD question.. at last Without past or memory.. we are not what we are now.. but.. we still are. As a blank slate or tabula rasa to start then we become thinking beings. This is the CORE problem more input from those out there with minds would be great. Roo
