Even though we are a polarized nation, with roughly half hating the other half and agreeing with them on almost nothing, a lot of foreigners seem to lump us all together. Like a lot of other people, I've been talking trash about Bush and Cheney and all their policies since before they took office. Threads on the subject aren't as busy as they used to be because we're running out of new things to say about it. I don't think George W. Bush has ever done anything right or made a good decision once in his entire life. I'll never live long enough to see all his damage undone. But...this is a thread about Boston. We don't even know that this event has an international connection. This part, I agree with.
Well, the words 'polarised' and 'devisive' have been used here a lot lately - with no regard to how polarised or divisive it is. Obviously, most things, political, are both - but it presumes it is 50-50 when no caveats are placed. It's used to suggest the opinion is evenly split. You can't really blame people for talking trash if you do the same thing.
I havent checked the thread recently. So have HF's neo-Con crowd decided who's country should be blown up this time? :rolleyes To put this in perspective, in another way, 2 people is probably about half the number of people who got shot dead last night in S Central LA.
Why is there always arguments on these kind of threads? People are sick, its like they get off on this kinda shit And opinion is an opinion, why argue over it as if it matters? What happened happened, so move on... Unless you have family that died or was injured, why the fuck do you even care? Yeah the government is going to start enforcing a bunch of new bs laws and rules, but so what... arguing about politics over a situation like this, here, wont do anything... run for government if you want to make a difference When mass shootings happen people use it as an excuse to bicker over gun laws... Then you all get all confused when no guns were involved so you make some random crap up to argue over? People arguing over how they should/shouldn't be sad, or how it is/isn't a big deal, or how it is/isn't a conspiracy... Who cares? Yes, I posted my opinions on here, and ended it there... thats what everyone should do, post your opinion... but why attack other peoples opinions? They mean nothing... Some of you need hobbies lol just sayin'
on a buddy of mines facebook he put as his status, "hide yo knives, hide yo guns, and hide yo [pressure cookers, cause they banin' everything out here" he is a knife maker, and the latter two are obvious.
Obama attending the memorial service at the Cathedral of the Holy Cross in Boston seems like a bit of a bold and gutsy move, considering that the bomber hasn't been caught, the church is a long way from the airport, and I doubt if there is anywhere around there to land a helicopter. Apparently his motorcade went through one of the tunnels under Boston Harbor. It's on CNN now.
This. I'm a little shocked he's going out, it doesn't seem safe, but then I think it shows something on his part that he's determined to be there, safe or not.
The man has some guts. He knew he was taking a big risk, trying to become the first black American president. He's already received at least six times as many death threats as any other president, and he still has three years to go. He's not afraid of fucking shit. I admire that. There isn't enough money on earth to get me to take his horrible job. I'd rather scrub toilets in subway stations. I was thinking this church was going to be Catholic, based on the name, but they have a female minister, so that can't be right. Their web site has crashed due to heavy traffic. Maybe a Boston local can tell us what this place is.
Guts? Please. This man is traveling with more security than anyone on the face of the planet. Doesn't take any "guts" to go there.
It's a Catholic Cathedral, but the service is non-denominational. The female minister is The Reverend Liz Walker of Roxbury Presbyterian Church, who is beloved in Boston because for many years she was the news anchor for the local NBC affiliate before she quit and went to divinity school.
Thank you for the update. After you get to be President, then you can tell us if any amount of security feels like enough. I was in Memphis once when Bush (W.) was in town (coincidence). They had him get out of the limo inside a tent because they couldn't secure all the downtown buildings from snipers. Wouldn't want to live that life.
I grew up watching Liz Walker on WBZ along with Anchorman Jack Williams and meteorologist Bruce Schwoegler. Why she left that high-paying gig is between herself and god but IMHO she should have stayed right where she was :2thumbsup: Hotwater
So much overnight news to catch up on! :willy_nilly: An armed carjacking, a high speed chase in Cambridge, explosives thrown at police, an MBTA security officer wounded by gunfire, an MIT security officer shot and killed, and bombing suspect number one is dead. The second bombing suspect is thought to be in the Watertown area. All mass transit in the Boston metro area has been shut down.
I am in Watertown, under lockdown. No one here allowed to go outside, T is shut down, no vehicles allowed in or out.
Just heard that bombers, one of whom is now dead, are from Turkey and are legal US residents. I'm glued to TV, hoping that no one comes to my door.
Now I'm hearing suspects are from Chechnya. There was a helluva lot of gunfire in Watertown last nite while I was sleeping.
