That's right. They did not rob the store. The surveillance video proved it. It was just a coincidence that they were near.

 

It was originally reported that murdered Patrol Officer Sean A. Collier was responding to a robbery at a 7-Eleven. But the robbery that had initially been attributed to the Tsarnaev brothers in the media was then reported to be a separate incident, even though the brothers had been in the 7-Eleven at roughly the same time. What a coincidence!

If one/both did I imagine it was as to not leave a trail. Fugitives don't often use an ATM. I guess they could have had some money with them - I dunno.

Yes, but becoming just as much of a fundamentalist as Osama bin Laden doesn't automatically motivate someone to hate the US. I don't know of any government on earth that has done more to oppress the free practice of Islam than the atheist government of Russia, and the USSR before it. So the motivation picture is still fuzzy to me.

I think the broader and sadder point is that terrorism of any kind almost never accomplishes what the perpetrators want it to accomplish, making the whole thing a pointless waste.

 

This UNCONFIRMED video which we are told appeared on Brazilian TV earlier today appears to have been shot at the scene of the Boston Police Dept’s arrest of suspect bomber Tamerlan Tsarnaev – the video clearly shows the 26 year old being escorted to BPD vehicle whilst handcuffed and not wounded, which in total contradiction to official reports which claim the suspect was shot by police and then run-over by his younger brother in a stolen SUV in Sommerville, MA. The official injury total is up to 273. It took some time for everyone to be counted because quite a few people with less serious injuries went somewhere other than an ER at a major hospital.

The problem I have with this kind of statistical information is that someone who lost both legs is counted the same as a victim who only needed three stitches and a tetanus shot. Because most of the force of these two bombs was down low, there were a lot of extreme leg injuries resulting in amputations. The best number I've been able to find online is "at least 14".

 

There's no specificity in reporting, or much of anything these days. And people wonder why we're so dumb. Our brains get no practice processing higher information.

I realize that there probably isn't a better way to handle the statistics. I only brought it up because this particular bombing is light on fatalities but heavy on serious injuries. A single traffic accident often results in three or more deaths, but 14 leg amputations is probably more than most hospital ER's see in a month, and 274 total injuries is a lot by any peacetime standard.

In a way, it makes better sense to think of this attack as a mass maiming rather than a mass murder. It now appears that all of the wounded are going to survive.
