I have an avocado tree growing outside, it is about 4 feet tall and it is only about 1 to 2 years old.
Pretty quickly - ours is 8 or 9 years old maybe. But I've had to cut the top constantly or it would try to grow right through the roof.
dd3 and Tarabelle, Thanks you two. I did read the whole thread previously so I caught those details. I'm in the PNW too so I suppose the rate of growth should be the same if I attempted to grow one. They have such beautiful seeds, and I LOVE the carvings.
The toothpick method didnt work for me when I tried it. However I had about 6 trees that grew out of my compost from the pit this year. Not sure how long it took to germinate but it happened during the summer so they got water and heat which is what triggers their sprouting the easiest I believe. They got big quickly and without much sun...and they lasted through the cold much longer than I expected. They did eventually die when winter really came but they seemed like really hardy easy-togrow plants. They grow like weeds in certain places in the world. Peace love and wheatgrass, Avocado PS - That is one awesome plant tarabelle!!!
