I had a dream that this happened to me and I don't have any children yet. Then when I got him back the foster parents changed his name! It was a scary dream!
Only thing i want to say, is if they are going to take babies away from the mothers for pregnant (illegal)drug use it is pretty bullshit that they don't take their babies away for tobacco or alcohol ab/use.
It's just that there is no,"War on drugs", for alcohol and tobacco. We are in a war so stand your ground and fight soldier.
You can see a physical therapist while pregnant. They're especially helpful for easing pain in ruptured discs... I've got 3 that have never healed right & the therapy helped immensely... and was covered at 100% because I was pregnant! Hot baths & heat-packs on the back/shoulder help too. I've had arthritis & chronic pain for 20 years, and my joints felt BETTER than they ever have both times I was pregnant! love, mom
I was told to stay away from HOT baths while pregnant... said the heat could cause problems. Just like the mother having a fever. It raises the body temperature, which isn't good for the babe.
I was told the same... but was told that so long as the water wasn't hot enough to turn my skin pink it was okay. Sorry, I should have been more clear about that. love, mom
Well im switzerland but i do think it is time for the soldiers to go home, it seems to me that sobriety is the opressor, as far as i can tell drugs have always kept their distance from sobriety...
Well, I will jump all over you for drinking even one glass of wine a day while pregnant. I worked in drug rehab for the last ten years. I have seen baby after baby come in with fetal alcohol syndrome. These babies can be damaged from just one drink once during the entire pregnancy. No one knows how much alcohol is too much. Some women drink the whole nine months and the baby is fine. Others drink once and have a baby with serious problems. No one knows. In ten years in this field, I have never seen a baby damaged by marijuana. I have researched the subject and can find no evidence of marijuana harming the baby. The only known damage from pot is that it can cause the sperm to mutate making it difficult to get pregnant. This mutation stops as soon as you stop smoking. There will be some damage from the smoke reducing the oxygen levels getting to the baby. But that damage is minimal compared to the damage done by mothers smoking cigarettes. No one smokes pot 20 to 30 times a day. So the amount of smoke the baby gets is minimal. My advice is to stay away from all mood altering substances while pregnant, pot, cigarettes, alcohol, caffeine, and definitely hard drugs. But if you must use pot for pain of morning sickness, brew tea with it, eat it in your food, or find another way to get it into your system. And stop completely during the last two months. Of course there is no way of knowing when your baby will be born. If you have a premie, you've still got problems. But most women go full term so stopping two months before the due date will assure that there is none in your system when the baby is born. Remember pot can stay in your fat cells for up to 60 days if you are a large person. 30 days in a small to average size person. In my experience in New jersey you will be tested if you are young, single, on state aid, a woman of color, or give birth in an inner city hospital. If you don't fit any of this criteria you may not be tested. But anyone is at risk of being tested and they don't tell you they are testing you or the baby until the social worker is at your door ready to take your baby. In New Jersey, you must go through a drug rehab program, be tested randomly, show no drugs in your system and be monitored for several months before they leave you alone. How long your baby stays in foster care will depend on how quickly you cooperate with the workers and the courts. While your baby is in state care you will have one supervised visit per week or maybe only every other week for one hour. If you are really really lucky you may have a family member who will qualify to take your baby. You will have to appear in court every 90 days for a compliance review. After the judge closes your case and returns your baby to you, you are still monitored by the state for several months before your case is closed. It's not a pretty scene at all. Personally, I don't think any mother should lose her baby for smoking pot. I do think there should be stronger penalties for women using alcohol, cocaine, heroin. Too many times I have seen a woman come in for treatment with a crack baby and a year later come back in with another crack baby. I had one client who had 16 kids. She didn't even know where half of them were. She had never raised any of them because of her drug use. I think something should be done about women like this. But I'm not sure what or how. But smoking pot because you're puking up everything you try to eat, no. Put the war against drugs where it belongs and leave the hippies alone. Just my humble opinion, Kathi
Actually it's because of the big payoffs that are given to congress by the alcohol and tobacco companies. If pot were legalized and owned by someone like Philip Morris, there would be no penalties for pot use either. Kathi
I am the 'baby to be momma'. I have worked with individuals with disabilities off and on for over twenty years. I have seen what can happen to babies when their mothers use during their pregnancy and afterwards. I would never smoke, drink, or use anything that is not prescribed by my doc. Even then, I would research the crap out of it before exposing my unborn child to any medicine. So, as for discussing my non-existent pregnancy, I hope that clears things up for everyone. As for a topic of conversation, I think awareness is key and this is a great convo. I was never even considering using anything during pregnancy. When I told Trekker about CPS's stand, he did not totally believe me...hence this thread. thanks all peace
My DD and I were drug tested when she was born and we both come up positive for THC. A social worker came to my house to check on thing about a week after the baywas born, saw that everything was fine, my older kids were well taken care of and well fed, and they baby was happily breatfeeding. The worker to a quick look around, gave a quick interview, and basically told me I was doing a good job, and that she was dropping the case. I doubt that is the norm, but that is what happened to me
Geez that is scary! I tried telling my pregnant friends who are currently smoking during their pregnancies that this type of stuff happens, but they don't want to listen. I know that THC doesn't harm a child, but the government removing a child from a good family does a lot of harm.
this is (in part) why i will never have a child in a hospital. the fact that they can and do drug test baby and mom without consent is a violation of privacy, and a violation of your person. but then, that's what hospital birthing is about, eh? violating who you are as a woman and a mother, so they can play hero and keep your business. ugh! i've spent my time working in hospitals, and the things that are "routine" are enough to chill me to my bones. not just in procedures, but in lack of respect for people's privacy and right to know what is going on with them and their care. it makes me so sick.
I've known a few mamas who blazed throughout their pregnancy and guess what? Their babies were the most well-behaved and calmest of all. Just letting you all know of my observation...peace.
hell, i wasn't happy taking tylenol, much less anything else. but your addictions are you addictions. good luck.
I dont think you should take anything at all when pregnant. However, I think how strict they are on THC is mental consider how little they do about mothers who smoke ciggarettes threw their pregnancy. My ex girlfriend what born at 1 lbs 9 oz due to her mother chain smoking.
Good! If people decide to smoke thats their choice - it isnt their babies choice. I was talking to my mum about this the other day and she said about a few tests they done on women smoking while pregnant and the bbay heart rate goes up, the baby also shows signs of an ex smoker when born! Everytime you smoke while your pregnant your baby does as well, theres nothing worse than seeing a pregnant women at our local hospital smoking. I said to one of my mates who was a smoker during pregnancy would she blow smoke in the childs face after it was born - she was disgusted by this. WHY IF YOUR BLOODY SMOKE! Grrrrrr
